Newbie looking for graphic EQ for acoustic track

Post by mlbex » Fri Sep 23, 2022 3:52 pm

I don't need all the fancy MIDI or plugins; I'm just trying to stack a bunch of guitar, vocal and mandolin tracks to make a record. Later I'll add bass if I can find a willing bass player :=)

So far, I have three discreet tracks: vocal, rhythm guitar and lead guitar. I need to apply a specific EQ to my vocal track. Eg Roll off 10 db at 300hz, slight boost at 1200 hz. Also, I'd like to be able to boost or cut the level of individual tracks at my discretion.

I can't find an eq where I get to choose the frequencies and dB magnitudes. Everything in EQ & Filters seems to be preset.

Can someone guide me to a graphic EQ or controllable parametric EQ with multiple bands, and tell me how to apply it to a single track?

(Born yesterday, as far as Ableton is concerned).

Thanks, mlbex

Additional tidbit... I use Ableton Live Lite, not the fully featured version.

Channel EQ allows gentle cuts/boots from 150 Hz to 7.5 kHz with its Mid knob, and gentle shelf boost/attenuation with Low and High (the Highpass can be disabled).

Each band in a EQ is basically a filter, so one Auto Filters instance should work much like one EQ band for low pass, high pass, notch, etc..

Utility can be used for simple gain changes.

For more advanced stuff, you can use Audio Racks with parallel Chains and phase inversion (with Utility).

Some good free EQs listed here:

Everything you need, and then some.
