Issues opening recent project files since installing the latest 11.2 update

Post by Sean Harvey » Wed Sep 28, 2022 8:51 am

I wonder if anyone can help, this is driving me mad.

I received an email yesterday from Ableton saying an update was available. I downloaded the latest Universal 11.2 update and now when I try to open recent projects they freeze and glitchy patterns appear in parts of the screen. It doesn't crash but my only option is to quit.

I have an intel mac running Mojave but was told the new intel update is only for newer macs

It seems that if I start a completely new file it's fine. But even something created 2 days ago is affected

Is there anyway to reinstall the 11.2 version I was running before? This new update just isn't working for me.

I suppose the only other option is to try and uninstall all 11.2 and reinstall but I don't want ton lose all my settings and links to my projects.

Thanks

Sean

Hey Sean,

Since the last night, I have just encountered the same problem. I can't even open my old projects with the new update, and I have to work!

I think this problem is not related to our computer. It's entirely bullshit updating.

Can anyone fix that problem!!!???

iMac Specs: macOS Mojave 4,2 GHz Intel Core i7

Ah, sorry to hear it’s happening to you too. Let’s hope the people at ableton can advise and sort this quickly because I have projects I need to get sorted too.

It’s not like we can reinstall the version before because I can’t see that anywhere.

I emailed and got this response …..

It looks like you're running macOS macOS 10.14.6. The Intel build of Live is for computers running macOS 10.13 only. Here's more info on Installing Live. I'd suggest installing the Universal Build from your Ableton account.

I hope this info is helpful!

I tried this but the universal version doesn’t work.

There's no risk of loosing files. Every preferences, settings and User Library files are saved outside of the application (btw, you should definitely have a look and analyze how Live manages files 😉). Simply thrash the Live application, download it again and install.

Thanks for the reply.

But for an uninstall Ableton says apart from trashing the application you need to...

Step 3
Locate these hidden files and folders and delete them entirely:

/Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/Ableton/
/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Ableton/
/Users/[username]/Library/Caches/Ableton/
all files starting with 'com.ableton.live.' in
/Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/
all files starting with 'Ableton Live Engine' in
/Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire/
all files starting with 'Ableton Live Engine' in
/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire/

Is this correct? Or can I juts dump the icon only and reinstall? I tried that a couple of times but the problem persists with the new update for me?

Same problem here on Live 11.2 on M1 Monterey. Live intrerface freezing after a couple of minutes. Audio engine seems to be running in background.
-DisableGraphicsHardwareAcceleration in Options.txt does not help.
Any other suggestions or workarounds welcome.

This is in case you want to completely remove everything associated with Live on your machine if you e.g want to stop using it... or be radical if you're having a very hardcore issue.
Simply removing the application itself (i.E in the Applications folder), and its associated Live v.X.X folder (make sure to save a copy somewhere first, just in case) in
/Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/Ableton/
should be enough.

I also tried the same things, but It did not work. The text format is not working; I'm still out of work and don't know when they will fix the problem. It's so annoying.

In the conversation above, deleting the application was mentioned, but I don't think it makes sense to solve this problem like this. Who will be responsible if I lose my data? Ableton should fix this issue with a new update.

HELP US PLEASE!

Ever since downloading the 11.2 update 10/1/22, I’ve had nothing but problems in Ableton Live Suite 11.
More specifically, several templates (.als) I've spent countless hours and probably weeks creating over the years now won’t open anymore (they were just fine in 11.1 before 11.2 update). I’ve uninstalled Ableton 11, restarted, re-installed and I still get prompts that these templates (.als files) are corrupt. My workflows are meticulous and I didn’t change anything except download and install update. I have found a temporary work-around... I still have Ableton Live 10 Suite on computer. Everything loads fine in Suite 10 still. Again, everything was fine in Live 11 before the 11.2 update. Hope they fix this asap.

No issues on Windows at all.

Again and again Mac users are punished for not using Apple apps only. In MASCHNE / Native Instruments forum its easy to find similar complaints as well.

And if devs accomplish to be compatible then Apple releases a new OS version and the trouble starts again.

Consequences?

Every Ableton project I open is giving me the error "Pointee IDs are not unique"
I have over 150 Worship music projects from Multitracks.com that will not open with this same error on a windows 11 Ableton Live 11.2

But it opens perfectly on my Macbook Pro 2014 with Ableton Live 11.1.6

What the heck did you do??

Support emailed me to create an Options.txt in Preferences
-_RepairNonUniquePointeeIds

But that didn't do anything
