Weird midi mapping overlaps

Post by Marunami » Wed Nov 09, 2022 8:57 pm

I have this super weird issue regarding MIDI.
Maybe some of you have seen this before?

I'm unsure what kind of information would be helpful but here goes.

On two different MIDI controllers - the Allen & Heath XONE:K2 and the APC40 mk2 (actually, also the Push 2 even though it's not shown in the video) there seems to be an overlap in the feedback of my MIDI even though they're configured on different midi channels.

The APC has a bunch of unchangeable MIDI-channels but it should only be responding to and sending MIDI on channels 1-8.
The K2 is running on channel 11 which you can see in the screenshot.

As you can see, only the four buttons on the K2 are mapped to the Track Activators on Track 1-4 and yet the APC40 picks up on the activation of said buttons.
I suspect it's because they share the MIDI Note values (C1, C#1, D1 and D#1).

I've tried different USB-hubs and even connecting the controllers directly into the laptop - gives me the same result.

Only the visuals overlap - as in, if I map the rogue'ly responding buttons to something else, the buttons don't trigger eachother.
But as you can imagine, it's pretty annoying that I don't have consistent feedback:P

if its only happening visually then that's good news. The colour data that makes the APC go flashy flashy is sent on a separate midi channel from the important stuff so its still sending and causing the conflict, i think, its confusing to me. My Midi Fighter Twister is a nightmare for random flashes. No idea about APC but its channels 3 & 6 for the MFT so I avoid those when mapping. Or change the cc number/note of either set of conflicts

Hey man - thanks for getting back to me!

It's only a visual thing - as far as I can tell.
Which would make sense from what you're describing.
I suspect it's some sort of overlap in the Midi Note values. Especially since everything should be in separate midi channels.

At some point there was a Midi Fighter Twister involved, so perhaps that 'infected' things:P

This is pretty high level nerd shit, but your answer is probably in here somewhere. Good luck finding it though.....
