Tempo Follower Question

Post by Pasha » Wed Dec 07, 2022 8:00 am

Lately I have found that it's harder to compose music while using Ableton Live.
The main issue is that I am not able to dial a proper BPM so when inspiration hits I loose the moment in technical issues and if I record anyway all clips are not aligned with tempo afterwards. (I know we have warp but I sometimes play odd tempo and odd divisions). I have tried with Looper controlled by a MIDI Pedal Device, it works sometimes.
I was thinking : Is the Tempo Follower capable of 'listening' to rhythm Guitar and set Ableton tempo?

Thanks
Pasha

Do your tests
Depending on what your playing it can work from great to not good with guitars.
Here's a little trick, as you're probably able (or you might even be doing it unconsciously for ever) to tap the tempo with your feet while playing the guitar: put a mic/contact mic on the floor and set it as your Follower source.

Thanks! The Mic thing sounds intriguing ;-)

Tested and it works at some point. Surely an improvement. However it cannot detect the tempo signature, only BPM. I have to find out a better way for odd signatures. In any case : THANKS!

I know, I know... in my delusional thinking... I really hoped differently. However do not take it as criticism, I am a loyal Ableton user since Version 4. :D

Everyday we read about AI and all the 'goodies' it will bring but it will have an hard time decoding what I play... because I have an hard time as well. :P

There's no peace for Guitar Players :-)

Thanks for support!
Have a nice day!
