eight track limit in Live Lite

Post by banjorandomizer » Sun Jan 29, 2023 1:42 am

Hi, I'm new to Ableton Live Lite and DAWs in general. Really appreciate your help!
I'm running into the 8 track limit when I try to open an existing midi file that I obtained elsewhere. I understand that Lite is limited in this way but was wondering if there might be a way to have it simply open the first 8 tracks of a file containing more than 8 tracks. I have audacity and the amazing slow-downer if these might help. Or maybe some free app exists to do this?
Thanks!
Randy

Try this:
place the set in a folder
add this folder to Live's Browser in the Places category
(or put the set somewhere in your User Library)
you should now be able to access the set from the Browser and a expand arrow should appear newt to the set's icon... click the arrow to expand it
this should show you all the tracks contained in the set
you can now drag'n'drop any track in the current set

If you hold Ctrl (on Win, I assume Mac users know the Mac equivalent) while drag and dropping into Live, then it will import the tracks one after another in one track instead of multiple tracks, then you can drag the resulting Clips manually into other Tracks.
