LIVE FIVE PERFORMANCE TEST - results here
1) Ableton Live CPU Meter % - 51
2) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model - Cybercom
3) Operating System - XP home
4) CPU Make Model and Speed - Athlon 2200+xp
5) Amount of Ram / Speed of Ram (if you know) - 1GB / it's PC2100 ram
6) Soundcard (Stock or add on?, usb/firewire/pci ?) - FW-410
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know) - 7200rpm
Wow that's pretty interesting!
An athlon 2200 still outperforms the fastest G4 laptop and isnt actually too bad considering it's age
what's also interesting is before I read the no peripherals bit I did the test first with a pcmcia>fw card + ext HD + USB cable modem attached and it peaked at 55 (only once or twice, mostly it peaked at 53 - but likewise the 2nd test was mostly 48-50 but very occasionally peak to 51) either way it's still pretty interesting that there's 4%age marks more with those peripherals attached

5) 1G
6) Novation x-station USB external
7) 7200 RPM USB external
The lappy has got either contention for the USB bus or the graphics performance killing it, but there is still a lot of headroom. (I tried adding synths until full...)

I should also mention as someone else here said they rebooted and got a lower average, that when I removed te peripherals I also quit live then restarted when they were gone, so it's also possible this was related to the reboot like the other guy.forge wrote:1) Ableton Live CPU Meter % - 51

A Friend of mine bought this new PC yesterday for 367Euro. We run the Performance test and i didnt belive it. The Sempron 3000+ run better than a P4 3.06H/T.

1 ) Ableton Live CPU Meter - 18% (peaks on 20%)
2 ) VooDooPC M Class - Envy M860
3 ) Windows XP Pro SP1
4 ) AMD Athlon 64 3400+ DTR
5 ) 1GB DDR 333MHz
6 ) Mbox
7 ) 7200rpm Hatachi 60GB
Think Patrick is right about the video card making a difference.
8 ) ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 256MB
Mines about a year old too, nothing will touch their new ones in terms of speed (I think it's the way they optimize the crap out of them).

I'll give another try at home with my second internal 7200 RPM Hard drive and the RME Multiface.

Live 5.0.3 - IBM Thinkpad R51 1.5ghz Centrino - 1,5 Go RAM - 7200 RPM 2nd HDD intern - RME Multiface - Windows XP Pro SP2
Basically, the new centrinos kick ass, and Athlon's are pretty good too. P4 clock speed is almost irrelevant..........I think the "winner" is the Pentium M, unless I'm missing something.......Funny, because I was talking to someone recently who said if I'm using a PC I'm a toy and RANTING the old schpiel about MAC this and MAC that and I was like, "I never had one cuz I could never afford one, I like my PC." Tell me how a Pentium M 1.7 Ghz is kicking a G5 dual 2.5 Ghz's ass????? HA the underdog has had his come-uppance!!!!
So just to be fu**ing annoying as hell (and probably get banned from these forums under this name), I can have my revenge on all of the elitist rich kid MAC users who looked down on an urchin like myself and refused to validate my creative efforts because I was rocking my self-built PC for so long, for not being able to fit into the clique with all of the uber-trendy musiq electronique sophisticates, and becuase it feels good and is the truth....
F**K MACINTOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAHAHA, you all wasted your money on those G5's!!!!!!!!
maybe you can take out the chips and turn them into earrings or something....

To each his own. My Mac works for me. Your PC works for you. It's just a box.
I love my new G5. It does everything I need it to do. I do wish it was as fast as some PCs out there, though.
I for one enjoy learning about both platforms without having to endure juvenile rhetoric such as yours.
If it works for you, great. There's no need to publicize your insecurity by bad-mouthing others. It just makes you look stupid.
My opinion, for what it's worth.
