ok, i can understand so glitch wants to see where to put his money.

then what are your choices glitch? you do realize this is a core machine running only one of its 2.0, hence 2.0 core right?

if its not where you want it to be try seeing if anyone has the 2.1

in the next 3 months i'm sure the 2.1 will degradded to the second level pro book.

i think yonah reaches 2.3 before merom comes in at 2.5

Serenity now.
Anybody else feel like we're talking over each other heads? wow. I feel like I'm on crazy pills! 8O

I keep hearing that the test is unreliable because of speedstepping etc. etc. but I'm telling you. I duplicated one of the tracks again and again on a macbook until the processor choked at usual 75%, with the same increase after every addition, so I'm just saying, from what I've seen, it ain't happening, therefor I still think the test is accurate. I would love to be proven wrong, that is what I'm hoping and trying to pull out of here like a tooth.

And honestly, thanks for the buying tips, but I've got my options all sorted, I know exactly where I'm at with all that. I just wanted to know if your report of 30% was real or imagined, and get a peak value. That's all.

I am going to respectfully bow out of this one as it is going nowhere fast.

Just got my 2.16Ghz MacBook Pro today. The machine is loaded with 2GB RAM and the 7200 rpm HD. I'll give it the Live 5.2b acid test tonight and post the results.

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter % 39%-42% (44% Peak)
2) Apple MacBook Pro
3) OS X 10.4.5
4) 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo
5) 2 GGB DDR2 SDRA
6) MOTU Traveler
7) 7200 rpm

A little slower than my 2.3Ghz Dual Core PowerMac. But for this kind of portability, I'll take it.

its not running at full cpu speed.
the speedstep is holding it back.

we discussed this a page or two back in this thread.
sooner or later we'll get it sorted.

a good way to see how fast it truley is (at full cpu) for now, is run the Live Test, then run Xbench in the background from www.xbench.com
this will demand full cpu for at least 1 second and you can see the cpu meter drop (probably to the mid to high 20%'s with your macbook)

This may be a dumb question, but why was it lower runing xbench?

groove where have you been? we've discussed this a plenty.

the same reason some people believe the "whine" in the macbooks occur. it has to do with apples use of Intel's mobile cpu speedstepping funcionality.

in order to save battery life the computer will not allow full CPU usage until truly needed. so as you can see when xbench runs, the cpu is oppened up.

its time to tell apple we need the option for max cpu turn on
