well, to be honest I'm not sure that I can think of anything better than what was in my prior post.AdamJay wrote:good points Angstrom.
would you be interested in formulating such a test, yourself?
IE:Perhaps we continue using the current test with the additional test of adding reverbs. So it would look like this.
1) Ableton Live CPU Meter % (if it bounces around, please list the peak)
2) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model
3) Operating System
4) CPU Make Model and Speed
5) Amount of Ram / Speed of Ram (if you know)
6) Soundcard (Stock or add on?, usb/firewire/pci ?)
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know)
8 ) How many Live reverbs added to master before CPU reaches 100%
Somehow I dont fancy posting a whole new test in a new thread ... it's your thang, you're the live test guy.
But I thought I'd pass on my thoughts, perhaps some others should comment before a 5.2 thread is started, they may have ideas that might modify the concept for the better.
I guess discussing in a thread called "Ideas toward a better Live 5.2 cpu test" might be better suited than this one.

with my production style (pretty heavy on dsp) i find myself hitting the roof about 3/4 through a project. im thinking about building an athlon X2 4400+ rig next.

1) max CPU meter: 70%
2) Laptop, Powerbook g4
3) OS = Max OSX 10.4.5
4) CPU : 1,67 GHz PowerPC G4
5) Ram: 1GB DDR2 SDRAM
6) Soundcard: Built in audio
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed - 5400 RPM
I also did the test with my M-audio Ozone with built in audio interface, a noticable difference in CPU meter..
1) mac CPU meter: 63%
6) Soundcard: M-audi Ozone

Ok, I write from the Apple Store in NYC, where I just installed Live 5.2b6 and the Adam Jay performance test on the internal drive of an Intel Mac Mini Duo 1.66, with only 512 megs of Ram.
The results: 29 to 33%, with plug in delay compensation off. With it on, it maxed out at 37%. The only other program running was Dashboard, and the results were the same with the Live screen maximized or shrunken.
While not as good as the Intel iMac, this is a dramatic improvement over G4's and probably some G5 configurations too.
I wonder how it would be with extra Ram.

my 2.0 macbook is running between 20 and 24 percent right now with 1gb of ram.aviavi wrote:Ok, I write from the Apple Store in NYC, where I just installed Live 5.2b6 and the Adam Jay performance test on the internal drive of an Intel Mac Mini Duo 1.66, with only 512 megs of Ram.

Whao man, 20-24% on a macbook? When I tested a 2.0 macbook in the store (1gb ram), it was 37-41%. How'd you get that so low? Was it just the latest beta that did it? What were your numbers for the previous beta?Digi V wrote: my 2.0 macbook is running between 20 and 24 percent right now with 1gb of ram.

though i still get the cpu at around 30
Dude, are you saying the Live 5.2b6 beta makes the performance on a macbook pro go from a 41% peak to 30%?
There's a 10% difference in cpu consumption between 5.2b5 and 5.2b6? are you sure? If so, this is huge.
Can any other macbook owners confirm this?
thanks,
