I use Alesis M1 Active MK2 Powered Studio Monitors. Cheap, decent sound, came with some free Auralex studiofoam tiles through a deal at Guitar Center. Equally as important... the speakers in my Civic.

got a decent review at sound on sound (the MKIIs, not my Honda Civic):

monitors

Post by feyshay » Thu Aug 04, 2005 10:40 pm

I've been very happy with these Event ASP 8 monitors. I bought them after comparing them with the Mackie 824. I thought they sounded better and had a better bottom end. I have a pair of BX5's with an SBX (subwoofer) that I have in a different area, but these are much better (because I don't think the subwoofer helps with mixing--in fact I think it makes it more difficult). Better to have enough bottom end on your monitors to avoid having to add a subwoofer.
They look really nice too.

A pair of Mackie SRM450's
Usually with my Pioneer DJM600, sometimes my Behringer DX1000.

Next door is up for sale again for the 5th change of owners in 19 years. 8O

Wonder why they keep moving?

Event ASP-8 Studio Precision Monitors.

Reasons:

Biamped. Low and High trim pots. Inputs: XLR + 1/4" bal or unbal.
Tight internal limiting protection.

$999.00 new from bpmmusic.com.

Extended bass response. Smooth like larger JBLs, but nicely detailed. Sound is kick-ass - literally. Lo-lo bass freqs do NOT create typical port-whooshing.

Was going to get HR824s but the price and reviews in mix and electronic musician mag hooked me.

Verdict: :D

dynaudio BM 5A

high-performance very compact design and it is extremely well suited for production environments where space is a concern. well suited for music monitoring and mixing, broadcasting, OB vans, edit suites, playback suites, project studios and smaller post production facilities. remarkable performance, i work in a production studio and i love them

Pioneer/TAD TSM-300

I've heard a lot of monitors...but these TSM-300 are amazing. Way cool spacials and placement.

2 6" edgeless woofers and right in the middle TAD driver.

Too bad Pioneer/TAD doesn't market these dudes..they are sweet.
I also use for bass the Sunfire Subwoofer which is way to low to go.

Event 20/20's

'Cause I traded them for my Yamaha P2500 Power amp that I had from my restaurant and my JBL Control 5's that I bought cheap and hated (Harsh)
Wasn't sure about the 20/20's at first (I still think they colour the sound) but since I have gotten to know them they have totally grown on me and I'm very happy now.

Would like some NS-10's as well tho'... no money for that anytime soon... oh well.

Monitors: KRK V6II
There's only one reason which should apply to everyone regardless of the monitor:
because I know them and my mixes translate well.

mackie hr824s

Treat your room properly and you'll hear all the bass thats really in the mix, and for dance based music, isn't that whats important ;)
no longer needed. this is for you. you know who you are.
