I just discovered that I can use Live as an effects processor for live instruments if you run them through the Live In feature. Now i want to do simultanious live intruments. I had considered the Quattro, but I really need about 8 tracks to make sure all the live instruments in a particular set up would be covered. Has anyone tried the tascam US-428 with Ableton Live? It seems to me that the mixer on that would be extremely valuable as well. And then of course let the renegade sampling begin!

I have a Tascam US-428 that I have used with Live in the past. It works great, especially as a control surface, though there was a brief period where it did not properly work with OS 10.2.3, which was pretty annoying. You said you want 8 tracks in though, the US-428 is only 4-in/ 2-out. Maybe you want a MOTU 828? For a live performance set up you would probably need the 8 outs as well to go to the board.
