Shouldn't any fader (or knob) do the trick really? You might not get the fader placed crosswise at the bottom, but it should work.

DM2!!! The cut-in is not great - but I've adjusted mine by putting stops at each end of the fader. The DM2 also has great A/B transform buttons.

I wish more people would use the DM2...

How responsive are MIDI crossfaders? I'm guessing you can't really scratch properly with them?

no its definatley not as responsive as a simple audio mixer + crossfader. there are calculations and crap that need to be done by the hardware and the software.

I am using the micromodul LV1 from Faderfox and think it's great. It's reasonably priced and expandable.

Check it out here -> http://www.faderfox.de/

the issue is not really the responsiveness but more the profile of the crossfader.

Live's profile needs work (we need user selectable crossfader profiles...abes you listening? :) )

I'm using my Ozonic's mod wheel. The faders feel a bit cheap and probably couldn't handle repeatedly cross-fading. The mod wheel feels good, though. Just remember which way is A and which way is B (or turn it sideways!)

just got one of these yesterday

so small light and compact yet the features and usability are tremendous

really good build quality too, and you dont have to spend loads of time assigning everything as you get really good templates for live with the cd you get with the unit

its also just striahgt up midi so its really reliable, yuo can plug and go without the need to install drivers etc

going to add an lx1 to this very soon i think, a great unit, definitely the way forward

yeah i've been thinking about the faderfoxes a bit, I know there is a little latency with any midi controller and I don't expect to 'really' cut, unless Live 5 has some new feature that one of you nice folks haven't told me about yet that let's you actualy scratch samples, but I do alot of 'cutlike' fading between samples and would like to get as close as possible., maybe my real dj mixer would be better to use but I'd like to record the movements too

did they upgrade the faderfoxes for use with Live 5? and also I never see any one talking about using the dj 1 for Live, is it not as good as the lv1, I would think the traditional djs moving to live would prefer the dj1 to the lv1

Since the Faderfoxes only sends midi messages (note on/off, CCs) they should be totally compatible with 5 as long as you use the same templates.

The Faderfoxes are very advanced controlers, BUT they depend very much on using the pre supplied templates. If you eg add or delete a track they will stop working in a logical way.

You can of course set up your own templates, but that is quite complex. The reason is that the Faderfoxes simulates "track scrolloing", ie scrolling between columns and also remaps buttons and knobs to operate on the current tracks. Live doesn't really support this, so the Faderfox simulates it by changing controller numbers and doing some other behind the scenes stuff.
