djing with live - drawbacks to mp3 vs wave?

Post by khenu » Sun Sep 04, 2005 11:22 pm

Hi Everyone,

I've recently upgraded to live version 5. Before, I was converting mp3's to wave, to use for dj'ing with live. Now, with the new version, I can use mp3's directly. I'm just wondering if there is any disadvantage in terms of audio quality or cpu load with using mp3's. Also, I'm not talking about files that start as wave - those I am using directly. This question is for files that start with me as mp3's.

Thanks so much!

Khenu

The only thing that Live 5 does now with MP3s is that it converts them to wavs for you and just plays the wav files. So it will sound just like it did when you were converting mp3->wav by yourself.

In the end, mp3 handling by ver5 is a real timesaver. There is no sound quality difference if you started with mp3 to begin with (like you say). Instead of converting the mp3 to wav, live does it for you on the fly. The mp3's you most frequently play are stored in their wav format in your %appdata%..
