optimising lappy's for LIVE

Post by jammer » Wed Sep 07, 2005 9:50 am

hey chaps and chapettes,

hope we're all groovy ...

does anyone know of any online info regarding optimising laptops for ableton live use?

just another question as well ... i recently just got live 5 and am learning live in order for a gig in a little over a week! eek!

i've done this so far:

http://www.jammer.biz?file=main.html&track=24

its only a 12min jam with some loops from one of my tracks (the next to play in the player is the original version) anyway, onec i'd finished and hit stop i then hit the tab button to go into the arrange windown and that took roughly 10mins for the lappy to do!!!!!

is that normal behaviour?

ok, thanks for that ... i did think it had crashed but decided to leave it for a while to see what happened. luckily it came back fine and then i rendered to disk without any problems as well.

i wonder if the paging file setup has an impact on this?

This is pretty much the standard site for XP tuning for audio applications:

http://www.musicxp.net/

Also, never forget to set your power profile to "Always on" when doing audio stuff. But you probably already knew that.

yeah, that is a good site, standard proceedure for me on my machines. and the power saving is all turned off too.

the only problem is that the install of xp i am using is still the factory setup version using acpi ... i'm sure that plays a part in the performance, but i'm loathed to reinstall without the need too, right now the lappy is very solid.

if it ain't broke ...

still i've got a fair amount of data in the live set already and there is much to add so i'm gonna have to keep an eye on it and see how it behaves in a few days once i've racked up enough data to flatten a small army!
