Dear Ableton Forum admin....here's how to setup rss for the Ableton Forum.

Just copy this code and paste into a new file. Name the new file rss.php. Then place the file rss.php in the forum root directory.

Then this http://forum.ableton.com/rss.php will be the address to the forum rss feed.

It just that easy...

Code: Select all

An RSS feed would be excellent; especially for those of us browsing on the go (iPhone!)

I would like that too, especially in that I recently found out what an RSS feed is when I bought this puppy for 6 bucks for my Mac:

http://www.newsfirerss.com/

I would highly recommend it (though I have not tried any other RSS clients to date, haha)

I have always wished the forum had an RSS feed too.

However I would argue it's not as simple as just adding a php script. You also have to consider the impact on bandwidth.

RSS readers have a tendency to bang away at your server, even when there's nothing new. As I type this there are 50384 users of this forum. Though the likely number of ACTIVE users is much smaller, and the subset who would use RSS even smaller, you're still talking about 10's of thousands of potential users with RSS clients banging away at the forum server.

This has a hard cost to it both in terms of bandwidth and server requirements.

I want to follow them via RSS too but it's not so simple as to just put a file and be done with a site this big.

Ableton,

A big use case to support RSS is mobile. The forums suck to read on a phone. If RSS you can easily use any mobile app on any platform that does RSS to follow the forum easy on the go.

I know i would read it more often if i could get a better view on my phone.

what else do people do in the bathroom anyway!
