I just ordered the 20" Imac... $1599 us with educational discount. The regular price is 1699, not 1799. And the 17" is 1.9 Ghz, not 1.5. They also use DDR-2 ram and a better graphics cards.
I have been waiting for new PowerBooks forever, and at the same time eyeing getting a studio display... this just seemed like a good deal. I can keep my 3+ year old laptop and just have a fast machine with a nice display to work on at home. Should be good, and cheaper than a Power Mac + Display... although who knows what the new power mac upgrades will bring.
Anyways, I've got a week before they ship to change my mind... but right now I'm leaning towards keeping it.
On another note, where are the freakin' PowerBooks? I should have just bit the bullet and bought the newest rev a while back... oh wait, I was broke.

I don't know, but I don't think we are going to see a g5 powerbook man. I think the next major upgrade to the notebooks will be when the new processors come out. Just my speculation.

nothing to see here -> move on please...
unless of course, you feel the urge to watch the a tv show on your new iPod Video...I mean, not that people watch enough tv as it is without having to carry it with you.
And no, showing your great video editing/compositing/3D animation on the iPod would not suffice...
bollocks...
McLuhan would be tossing in his grave

I share the sentiments of most of you...i.e. WTF?
Who really cares about imacs and vid ipods?
I expected G5 pbooks, so I am VERY disappointed.
But if they were going to release those, they'd have done it now.
Probably, the biggest hype for apples most tame and uninteresting announcement, to date.

That's why they're going to Intel. No chance in hell there was going to be a G5 powerbook.

Video? Hmm - the PSP has got that covered
BTW if you haven't got one, get one - I'm waiting on GTA Liberty City Stories right now to come out on the 25th in the USA
and hopefully sooner or later Sony will let you incorporate your own music in the games or replace the sound tracks with your own - Xbox has got that covered and yes I'm waiting on the 360
music wise I'm just waiting on some talent

- just kidding

Don't think many people were expecting G5 powerbooks.... It's hard to imagine that they would completely redo the architecture of the laptop for one release before switching to another completely different architecture for Intel chips. Although I very much agree that a much faster laptop is overdue, I don't think it will come until Intel machines (I would happily eat my words on this).
I would have been happy with a 1.8 - 2Ghz G4 PowerBook with higher screen resolution, faster FSB and DDR2 ram. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks they'll release something with similar specs so I can agonize for days on end about whether to stick with the iMac or go with a new PowerBook. The bliss of it all.
