You Canadians and your smokin eh. Sheesh.

Seriously

If your sound is wack when your head is in it's default state what makes you think your going to create gems when your blunted?

The only reason I could see is if those things make you lose some inhibition or self doubt.

Do what you do, Enjoy what you enjoy but you can't expect those things to give you "the touch"

Now Heroin, that's different. Just ask Miles.

I've actually just kicked weed after about 10 years using it solely for music

thing is this, cant remember who of but paddy (pitch black) posted a quote here once:

"the thing about hashish is it makes you very creative but it also makes it nearly impossible to profit from your art."

maybe not those exact words but absolutely true

I've had 3 tunes signed in all that time and all 3 were ones I started in reason on a laptop at work, sober.

I probably worked on them stoned, but the main guts was sober.

I have made some amazing sounds and been very creative with ideas and constanly told myself that i needed weed to "get into the zone" - I'd get stoned, start doing music and get so absorbed the walls could be falling down and I wouldnt notice, then I'd wake up the next day having completely forgotten everything but there'd be a tune there - but never quite finished.

I'm sure it's useful at some point in the process, maybe to add a different dimension, but you have to have a straight head to finish anything. And then there's the other problem that if you do it once the temptation is there to do it all the time, until you no longer sit down and make music without it and so never finish anything.

I have about 150 unfinished tunes waiting, alot of them with some great ideas in them, but weed just made me lazy and slow so I'd have ideas and think "yeah I'll do that later" and oif course later never comes.

Now I might have a strong coffee and/or beer to take of the edge, but the best way I find to zone in now is to have a bit of a mix and get excited that way

yes, yes he is. i think if any one person defined what it is to 'produce' as opposed to just 'record' then its him. certainly as regards contemporary electronic music. My hero. Apart from the massive heroin use, huge weight gain and untimely death obviously...

Sometimes I am high, sometimes not. It doesn't matter what state I am in. When I want to make music I make it. I find that they both have advantages.
