missing MIDI-controllers

Post by mariposa » Sat Oct 15, 2005 3:15 pm

Why aren't all MIDI controlllers involved (like controller 6)

According to MIDI specs, some continuous controller numbers are reserved for specific purposes, such as data entry, registered and non-registered parameter numbers LSBs and MSBs, etc.

CC6 is one of those.

You've still got plenty of undefined CCs to use in Live, though. Your safest bets are 3, 9, 12-15, 20-31, 68, 70-79, 84-91, and 102-121.

I know that some controllers are reserved like you said, but for me for programming it's easier to use f.e. controller 1-10, instead of 1-5,7-11.
In other MIDI software programs it's no problem, except Live.

These absent CC's is a bummer if you are using a MIDI controller that won't let you program which CC's to send. I own a couple of such controllers, amont them a FAderfox LV1 and a very useful analgo filter bank (lots of buttons with fixed CC's sent out).

But there are utilities that can "re-map" CC's, I think.
