What does a good soundcard do?

Post by Carl F Leiber » Wed Oct 19, 2005 11:53 am

Ofcourse I know the soundquality should be higher, but sometbody told me it could even be a relieve to the cpu, because it actually do some calculating. Is this true, or does a soundcard only USE cpu-power?

i'm pretty sure the net cpu usage increases when using an external soundcard, wich is off course also caused by the usb/firewire connection...internal i don't now. :?

Hi,

As a fact, when I use my RME multiface, I get much more juice from my laptop. That's maybe because of the ASIO driver, but I believe there is more.
Then you've got soundcards that work with a DSP, wich performs certain tasks like Fx.
That's all I know, other will have more clues I guess,
Best,
