Post by ramonster » Wed Oct 19, 2005 1:18 pm

Here's picture of my custom built midi-controller. I've used it during my DJ set / Live performance last weekend.

Works great!!

Ok,

it's got 3 sections
every section has:
1 fader (volume)
1 knob for panning
1 cue button
1 knob for gain
3 knobs for EQ'ing
3 knobs for send effects (A,B and C)
6 select-clip buttons
1 stop-clip button

then there's
1 cross-fader
8 free assignable buttons
3 free assignable knobs
1 speed controller (100-160 bmp)
and 1 LCD screen that displays information about the current knobs/fader/button.

It's primary use if for DJ'ing with Live, but it can be used for Live performances also.

For more pictures of my performance (with my midi-controller) see the photo-gallery of my website: http://www.mindgrooves.nl

Sounds cool, what components did you use for the midi control elements, ie where did you get the necessary circuits and info from?

Then read the pages at midibox.org.

I didn't know anything about electronics, soldering etc. But it wasn't too hard to create.
There's lots of information on the site and the people on the forum will help anyone (even with the most stupid questions)

Ok,
the total costs for creating my midi-controller are around 330 euros.
(my dad created the stainless-steel casing, so there were no costs)

Time to create was about 20-40 hour (don't know exactly).

You can speed it up by using wood instead of stainless-steel for the casing i guess.

Man, I checked the midibox.org website, and it's pretty intimidating.

I'm looking to make something that has 16 pitch controls, all in knob form. I find that the 0-127 is just too "steppy" for certain applications, and I want to 16 transmit pitch controls on channels 1-16, and map 'em to filters...

Very nice controller mate, I was considering offering Sasha one of my kidneys/my first born son etc in exchange for his Maven.

This actually might be an achievable solution.
