250 is the model number......in this case 80 is for 80 ohm.
They make other versions, like 200 ohm, I believe.
I have had a pair of these for several years. Yes, they are very comfortable and the sound quality is smooth and has great bass response. I have done some pre-mixing with them and then later checked everything out on regular monitors and made a few adjustments (vocal levels in particular).
My only prob with the 80 ohm version is I can't get enough gain/volume from most headphone outs - and when I push the output by summing busses together for example, they clip. Yeah I know, probably just as well for my ears, but when I am tracking - I wanna rock.
Film and TV guys use these a lot.

sounds like you have a bit of catching up to do so this forum is not where to start...
I've had the 250 ohm version for 4 years now and I love them. Great flat and detailed sound, and very comfy on the ears. Back when I bought mine, the 250 ohm version allegedly used better drivers than the 80 ohm version. That's why I bought them. I have no idea if that is still the case now. Check out the forums at http://www.head-fi.com, the guys over there know their stuff.
