All Skype'd Up! ..yo

Post by dpel » Tue Dec 13, 2005 12:22 am

hey,
anybody Skyping as i'm typing?

i say we organize an Ableton/Skype party line or
as we say these days, a forum.

Skype could offer a whole new approach to tech support
for Live.

don't you agree?

I used it maybe twice ,some of my friends big fans of it. Never made much sense using it when there are phones, it sounds irritating, even with better headphones but might be a good idea at last a reason to use it

it is a lot cheaper than using the phone...
especially when calling overseas.

from computer to computer, both with skype, it's FREE and sounds ok... but it's really cheap when calling to a phone number on the other side of the word, no sound quality this way ...

i use it for talking to pops who is in mexico. works fine enough and would cost a fortune otherwise. but frankly in general i hate the phone and i have no interest in real chat with you fools.

...however tech support is another matter.

I've got my bluetooth headset working with skype and netzero voice (guys in USA should check it out, it's free for the first 3 months, unlimited calls and a free incoming number too!) shit, i sound like a sales person [note: I am not!!]

it's good fun wondering around the room without cords (and nearly to the fridge or the bathroom) making dirt cheap calls
hehe :)

I have it installed just for IM'ing with a couple of friends, I've never used it for calls... I should really be using Yahoo or MSN for that...

I've been using Skype for about 7 months for phonecalls overseas. Locally in OZ I use Engin (www.engin.com.au).

Skype is built on peer to peer technology that Kazaa was built on. Theyre technology is so good that I had been waiting for the day that they added video features and now there's a beta in which they have done just that!! awesome!

Here's a cool gadget for anyone keen on doing more with Skype.

p.s. Yahoo has now integrated VoIP..

I just installed Skype for staying in touch with relatives overseas without the high cost of phone calls. Yet to buy a headset, but even using a conventional mic and speakers it works fine.

An Ableton Sype user group is an interesting idea, and I would possibly be up for that!
