Post by airvolver » Tue Dec 20, 2005 10:23 pm

can someone explain to me how you proceed to freeze a clip (and not the entire track)...i've searched on the manual but didnt found anything helpful. but then if theres an explanation in the manual then just point me to the right page!

Hi,

Basically, as far as I get it, there is no page I could possibly point out: you can only freeze tracks, not individual clips.... But you can always consolidate a clip, that's a different story.
People, correct if wrong, please !
Cheers,

And you may drag the clip out to the browser, saving it with the track FX etc, which could be some kind of freeze.
I dunno...

draggin the clip to the browser doesnt work. oops, should i point out that it's a MIDI clip and not an audio one...what i want basicaly, is the most convenient way to get a MIDI clip in audio form. that should be clearer i think

Don't know about freezing (still on Live 4), but it is dead easy to just record it in an audio clip

asuming the triggered MIDI device is a software plug-in on the midi track:

solo the midi track, create and arm a new audio track, set the audio trak's input to "resample", make sure your master level is good (because it's recordng from your master bus) and then record your loop on the audio channel. Un-solo, stop the midi track playback and your newly recorded audio clip will be identical to your midi one. Good luck!

Or just set the input on the audio track to the midi track and record. Then you don't have to worry about sends and any effects on the master bus.

Depends on what you want.

It is a very quick and painless process either way.

don't use that Freeze function. it has a bug, when re-opening the song the Frozen files are missing. at least on PC. confirmed by several users.

I would be handy to be able to click the midi clip and choose "Render to audio", which should run the midi clip once through the track and create an audio clip replica in parallell in the next available audio track. Kind of advanced copy...

conny -- that's exactly what you are doing with the routing thing.

You just record the midi clip into an audio track. It's super easy.

Yeah, understood. I was just fiddling with a short cut idea!

Anyway and eitherway - how do you guys make the resampled or routed-recorded audio exactly the lengt the midi takes for one loop?
That was part of my suggestion for the imaginary short cut.

Clip freeze aside...

Are you guys saving all your sets as self-contained as well?

Havta say I haven't lost any files yet (knock on wood...).

Turn off the "Loop" toggle when recording.
