Direct Wave VSTi... it looks quite interesting

Post by cyphersum » Wed Jan 11, 2006 5:41 pm

Description:
Direct Wave is a powerful and versatile sampler featuring a fully programmable synthesis section and features such as inbuilt FX, velocity-layering, looping, automatic sampling of VSTi plugins and the ability to 'sample' (record sound) when loaded into a mixer track on an effect slot.

Check it out here: http://www.aodix.com/

Image Line will be selling it via the FLStudio shop.

Sorry for that!

Anyways... Will Direct Wave will an inexpensive alternative to software such as Kontakt and other software Samplers?

looks really good to me so far. i dont particularly like kontakt; this looks a lot more straightforward and easy to work with

the auto VST sampling is what would sell me though, i can think of some uses for that - espeically if it makes VST patches that are real-time CPU intensive more efficient after sampling

It's still just a fruityloops plugin, right?

The DirectWave VSTi is available now from Image-Line(check FL Studio web shop) for $79US until January 31st. Please demo and check the specs before you purchase... make sure you can use it. The site also has a NICE listing of everything this software can do.

I will be demoing it within FL... if I like, time for Live5.

disclaimer: I don't work for or benefit from the creators of DirectWave. I just think it's a great product for the price!

cyphersum, why not quickly try it within Live and tell us whether we can actually use it? That'd be cool.

A note: I just tried to order, it not being 31 Jan yet, and the price was $99.
What it is (for Now): (2) Lenovo Dual Core desktops, Edirol PCR-800, Sonar 8.5 PE, Live 8 w/Operator and Sampler, the unloved PT 8, Kontakt 4, Battery 3, GPO 4, mulititudinous plugs and libraries, much unused hardware. And... silence; much silence.

That's because this was originally posted in 2006. Still a good buy at $99 though.

Directwave has a lot of nice features. It's a good deal. But if you're gonna spend $100, why not spend a bit more and get something native to Live like Sampler? If you are thinking about a good sampler in use in other vst hosts, I'd definitely recommend it. The imageline guys make some very powerful shit for very reasonable prices. If I hadn't bought sampler, I'd get Directwave.

As I've stated on other posts, I would get Sampler if it came with an instrument library.

I’m talking, of course, about Highlife. The VSTi Pro-grade Sampler/Freezer/Host/Audio Editor/Multi-Sampling Tool/A Whole Lot of Other Cool Stuff, which thanks to the generosity of George @ DiscoDSP (and much to the chagrin of Arguru) is now freeware.

At the core of Highlife is a high quality/super-low aliasing sample engine designed by Arguru (original coder of all things DiscoDSP, and the creator of IL’s crazy low-priced multi-sampler Directwave) — an engine that according to an aliasing test puts your $500 mega-sampler’s to shame.

I never "got" highlife - it's UI is a bit bizarre to me
