same here about winamp, but why discounting?
also on windows i liked music match. pretty neat player, with many possibilityes, could convert files, burn cd's and other cool options. but those new updates just suck, i coudnt even change to some old skins.

it plays music

how more effective does a media player need to be?

to be fair itunes is merely a library and wrapper for quicktime...

I use iTunes to play albums and playlisted tracks.
To listen to single tracks, I usually use Quicktime because it loads faster.

Audio player in a sense of playing audio files? I just use the Finder and Quicktime.

If you mean an app to onganize audio file, I agree with others that iTunes is very good.

And the Finder.
