No, this is not the load of marketing i was referring to. I was referring to the hype and marketing that surrounded the release of version 5 which for many people, including myself, was a problematic release for quite some time. There have been other posts referring to 'fix 5 before even thinking about 6' and I am just echoing that statement. Live is a wonderful product, it's my choice of daw, I'm not interested in any other major daw. I would hope to see that Ableton spends their time and money on creating a rock solid program rather than promotion and marketing with version 6 which I realize is also important but in my opinion when finding the balance between marketing and development, I suggest concentrate more on the develpment, don't hype a product that isn't up to scratch because you lose integrity.AdamJay wrote:please fill me in with regards to this "load of marketing" Ableton is doing for Live 6.alan* wrote: But yeah it certainly does seem like a load of marketing and commercialism
all i've seen is the mention of a release QUARTER (not even a date!), and the mention of one feature and one feature only.
furthermore, i have never seen "Live 6" on the front page of ableton.com
i see lots of Live 5 deals, and mention of Live 5.2 on the front page.
but no mention of v.6 on the front page.
mention of v.6 is on the v.5.2 page, and on that page there are only 2 sentences about v.6
is this the "load of marketing" you are referring to?
What could possibly be coming in version 6.0?
I totally agree. It could really end up hurting Ableton if they push new versions to market that are not rock solid. When you have a bad experience, you are much more likely to try other alternatives (and not suggest the software to friends - which is really the best marketing a company can have).alan* wrote: I suggest concentrate more on the develpoment, don't hype a product that isn't up to scratch because you lose integrity.
sorry for the confusionalan* wrote:No, this is not the load of marketing i was referring to. It's fine, i can see I could have worded it more clearly.AdamJay wrote:sorry for the confusionalan* wrote:No, this is not the load of marketing i was referring to. I really hope by 'certain users' you mean me.
and by really cool you mean ' new midi routing page and user designable GUI page, and all the other things on your wishlist ...'
or it could mean - loads of damn DJ features like a 'scratch plugin' for the masses, oh and a blue icon this time.
OH NO PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!! NO MORE DJ FEATURES!!!Angstrom wrote:invol wrote:I did some consulting with them at AES in NYC last october, and Live 6 is going to be very cool, especially for certain users.

Nothing against dj's... But it's easy enough as it is.
Live needs more complexity. More MIDI plugins. Configurable GUI's. More complex routing of more different kinds of signals. New volume meters.
And a shitload of new effects to go with some kind of granular synthesis operator feature......
+ the other half of the features we got in Live 5 (track grouping/hiding, multitrack freeze, scene preview,......)
certain users?
I know they can not please all of us. But at least they can try
I could really go for video as I am SICK of using Pro Tools to do video work when I do all of my work in Live.
I wish I could export audio clips out of my session by merely dragging them to where I want them in the browser.
Also, it would be nice that when I highlight a clip in my session that it highlights the clip in the browser (easier to rename and find in a long list)
just my .02 worth that I have been dealing with this week.
