I'd imagine another increase in profits for Ableton.

I hope it is something worthwhile - otherwise I think it will get a lot of negative reaction as just marketing - or a money maker. Also, if it isn't anything significant, I hope the update price reflects this.

Here is my problem - do I update to 5.0 now and then pay another update fee later in the year for 6.0 - or just wait for 6.0 (which is the more economical approach - assuming that Ableton continues to offer the upgrade from any version at the same price - but I don't get to use 5.0 in the coming months in this case).

It would be nice if they offered an incentive to upgrade to 5.0 now - knowing that 6.0 is coming and another upgrade fee will be involved at that point. (I guess that is what the upgrade special from the lite version is about - but a similar incentive for people who own a full version would be nice also.)

Upgrade now as it seems 5.2 is becoming more stable, and the dont bother with 6 until you really need it and/or until all the bugs are ironed out. The multiple processor support will probbaly be live 6 most important feature. But yeah it certainly does seem like a load of marketing and commercialism especially considering the amount of problems people have had with 5 ?

Multi-processor support and rock-solid stability and high CPU efficiency would be the best way for Ableton to really make their mark with Live 6.

I'm hoping for a video window. Not necessarily a video seqencer but some way of dropping vide clips on tracks as well for an integrated audio visual set.

Plus a few more Effects and maybe a free new Virtual Instrument. I'd be pissed off if they launched another one like Operator that we had to pay for again. I shelled out £100 to upgrade from 4-5 with Operator. Having said that, the upgrade was about £35 anyways. Not too bad, but my crediit card got the better of me at the time.

ten of your earth credits sez crossfading in arrangement tracks is in L6

please fill me in with regards to this "load of marketing" Ableton is doing for Live 6.

all i've seen is the mention of a release QUARTER (not even a date!), and the mention of one feature and one feature only.
furthermore, i have never seen "Live 6" on the front page of ableton.com
i see lots of Live 5 deals, and mention of Live 5.2 on the front page.
but no mention of v.6 on the front page.

mention of v.6 is on the v.5.2 page, and on that page there are only 2 sentences about v.6

is this the "load of marketing" you are referring to?

I don't even use impulse (ever) simpler sounds bigger, hotter what ever - granted I have to use tracks instead of slots but you end up using tracks to bus individual drums

perhaps in 6 they should attach a old school step sequencer to Impulse - that would make it hot

I know I've been saying "hot" lately but Paris Hilton has been championing that word for a while and I think she's hot and want to make out with her and her sister so...

That's hot

Free effects and instruments are so videly available nowadays that dedicated Live plug ins are only interesting if they integrate into Live in a unique way.

A dedicated beat slicer that ties into how Live works, that would be very nice. But a new better filter (or something) would be quite meh.

It is not about the mentioning of 6 being on its way (which is actually nice that they are willing to share that this far in advance considering it could mean a certain number of people wait to upgrade until it comes out - meaning lost income for them). It is more about the idea of an update with no substance just to get more $s - just speculation of course - they could have lots of great new features in mind for 6.0.

Some software companies release updates every year just to keep the cash coming in - even if the updates don't really improve the product much (but you are forced to upgrade to get bug fixes that were never addressed in the earlier version). That's really what that statement was referring to - I hope Ableton doesn't go down this path.
