I was being sarcastic, I spent the whole morning and half afternoon in an anechoic room measuring microphone responses for hearing aids, setting un multiband filters and stuff so I became sarcastic.

Get a Mac if you have the money!

I have a PC but I'm on a budget so I need all the juice I can get for the price

but something's about MAC's and how simple they are makes life a little easier

problem is - my Ableton sessions crashed all the time on the mac and several things did and didn't work on the mac

but I really want to access my music library on my IPOD and I want the cool design and simplicity back

I love my PC and its cranking jams but it just seems so, not cool.

I've been using Macs for 11 years and PC's for 8 years. Which one you choose is up to what software you intend to run, except for Live that is good on both systems. I guess they are quite equal performance-wise.

Personally I like it better working on a Mac, but I still keep at least one PC for running Mobius that is XP only. If you go with a Mac you can also expand your work into using Numerology, Logic and MetaSynth. Recently I swapped the PC drive and reinstalled Windows XP from scratch WITHOUT Norton Ghost and Symantec Anti Virus. These software simply screwd up too much with the system. Each time I got on stage with the lappy I had to turn them off manually. So now I never use the PC on the internet, only for making music with Live/Mobius. Next time a machine breaks down on me I will probably replace it with a Macbook Pro (or similar).

My DAW / Laptop is NOWHERE near the internet either.
I could have told you all that Norton SHITE was just that.
Atleast things have been fairly balanced so far.
The only advice I'm gonna give you if you get a laptop is to do what I did.
Find a company that has great industry cred that specialises in Audio Computer configurations.
If you're going Windows ,pay them to preconfigure your entire system from OS install up for Pro Audio use at a nominal fee.
Keep it off the internet.
Don't fuck with any of the settings or the tweeks they've done (no matter how tempted).
This is what I did and my Toshiba runs smooth as day in day out without crashing at all.
If portability is not an issue the 20" DualCore iMac looks like a damn bargain this end it has to be said.
Inevitably the choice is yours however.

No one in their right mind should install Norton/Symantec Antivirus. It just fucks with everything (let alone music....).

Of course on a mac you don't have to choose any antivirus software at all.... ;) It wasn't always this way. I used to use Norton Utilities on a mac back in like 1993 when Symantec was actually good. Ahhhh, those were the days.....

There's a crucial point here - you don't have to worry about using a mac on the internet AND for music stuff. If you want one laptop to do EVERYTHING on, I'd recommend a mac. Trying to keep an XP installation running smoothly and using it for Internet, Email, Music production, + misc. work software can become a real headache (note that I said CAN, not WILL). On a mac, it's not really a concern.

As a PC use I'd have too agree with you there Forgie.
In all honesty if I had needed an all in one solution for internet , email , music etc I would have gone the Mac route in a flash.
Thanfully the otherhalf is in the printing/publishing industry and has a PC connected via ADSL so it wasn't a primary concern for me.
I think it's a good point you've raised and something that is definately worth your consideration when making a purchase.

I use a PC right now, but I would get either one if I knew I would never have to buy another computer again.
