I like using live as a sketchpad....I'd like to use one of the more veteran daw's for mastering (coupled with a tc powercore , uad , and those sony oxfords) ...just for better cpu usage and more stability when using a dose of plugs ....
waiting for the whitefield chips intel should bring out by the end of the year, will take me that long to save the cash anyways

I'm kinda like one those fans that was down with a band when they were local/indie and doesnt feel them so much anymore when they go pop then gets back into them again
I've been using live since the 1 days...
It was my main host for about 2 years
I kinda got burnt out on the Live/Reason combo around the time 4 came out
I needed some new drums and synth sounds
so got back into HW samplers and my old E-mu keys
then Stylus came out and I went Stylus and Logic with Live as a plug-in
now I'm heave Live again
Now i'm Live/Styus w/ sound design in the sampers
bouncing into Logic or PT

I use cubase from time to time. Certain projects require it.
an example was a 60 minute long ambient piece where I needed to do some X-fading and multiple envelope editing. I started in Live but it has no x-fading in arrange Also live can only show one envelope for each arrange track.
I started the peice in Live and then had to move over to Cubase.
I know now to accept that Live is not suitabe for certain projects. I will use anything else if it is quicker on a task, I have no 'brand loyalty', I simply use what is best.

same here, live is great for, well live use and as a sketchpad, but for propper production Logic is a different league alltogether.Again, I love using Live as a sketchpad, but I still think Logic is another league with regard to quality of sound, plug-ins and flexibility. And is just as quick and easy to use if you spend some time setting up an efficienr workflow Very Happy
I'm in a bit of a quandy...I got one of the new imacs, as a performer machine and handy to have a mac in the studio....but when the new intel chips come out I want to pick up a desktop to use as a daw, and for 3d graphics......basically I'm thinking PC, not a mac tower since mac's arent known for their 3d prowess.
Anyways, that would basically mean using cubase as a daw...which would be fine, but just out of curiosity, what do you think gives logic the edge if you were to compare the two ?

logic has a node function, so you can distribute power over several maschines hooked up via ethernet. *lots of people kept their old g4 450mhz macs and bought a mac mini to run it as a node, works brilliant*
second Logic is by far the strongest apps when it comes to midi (the enviroment! and tons of other aspects, to many to mention and some would take up a whole page to explain!) there is no other apps which can touch that, not even DP even i think it's the second best apps outhere...
the plugs that ship with logic are from very high quality, cubase plugs or for that matter all steinberg products ever made are not cutting the mustard sonically, but this is MY PERSONEL OPINION *so no need to argue about it!*
and Logic is loaded with some very decent instruments to.
and most importantly cubase is sort of adding a slightly compressed and a little fattening sound while bouncing, which a lot of people like as it sounds *impressive* Logic is totally neutral and gives me more precise control of how the bounced file sounds, which i like more... it's not really about good or bad, more a matter what you prefer...
also i haven't used cubase for a long time, maybee they have introduced in the meantime something similar to the *screenset* function in logic which is brilliant to set up a personalised workflow.
i have to use often PT in hire studios (unfortenuatly), but i prefer Logic over all apps avialable, anytime. but that's just my 2cents.
one difference is that cubase performs well on a PC and extremely lousy on a mac (in terms of CPU effeciency) Logic is super optimised for Macs, without a problem you can run it on very old outdated maschines with still enough power to run 12-15 and more tracks loaded with plugs and softsynths.Anyways, that would basically mean using cubase as a daw...which would be fine, but just out of curiosity, what do you think gives logic the edge if you were to compare the two ?
