Man, I have not heard 93 till infinity since, probably '93... that used to be some of our main stuff man. Thanks for the reminder, I need to pick that up again. Eminem is cool, I'm not a huge fan but I have some of his stuff.

How about some more alt hip-hop suggestions? One of my concessions from budgeting for a wedding last year (my advice, ELOPE!) was to lay off my trips to the record shop. Time to catch up :D. MTV is no place to find new hip hop.

I can suggest these, all the albums by all these dudes are great, IMHO
FreeStyle Fellowship
Pharcyde
Haiku D'Etat (Pharcyde spinoff)
People Under The Stairs
Jurassic 5
Blackalicious
DJ Cam

On the Hieroglyphics crew these are the dudes I did have a clue about:
Del the Funkee Homosapien
Dr. Octagon/Kool Keith
Dan The Automator
Handsome Boy Modeling School (first album only)

Souls Of Mischief and Heiroglyphics are on my list ;)

Then there's the usual classics De La, Tribe, B-Boys, Mos Def/Black Star, Dig Plan...

Nothing's cooler than finding new music 8) hook me up!

also been listening to http://www.smoothbeats.com LOL Souls Of Mischief just came on, Cab Fare (they sampled Taxi, nice), it's meant to be. :D

The cyclops listed some of my all time and new time favs,

gangstar
aesop rock
sage francis
tribe
de la soul
krs
jeru the damaja -

Real rough and rugged, shine like a gold nugget
Every time i pick up the microphone i drug it
Unplug it on chumps with the gangsta babble
Leave your nines at home and bring your skills to the battle
You're rattlin' on and on and ain't sayin nothing
That's why you got snuffed when you bump heads with Dirty Rotten
Have you forgotten, i'll tap you [jaw]
I also kick like kung fu flicks by run run shaw

I love it, from SF to Baltimore to Newcastle UK, hip hop all around the world. :D

"Listen.. people be askin me all the time,
"Yo Mos, what's gettin ready to happen with Hip-Hop?"
(Where do you think Hip-Hop is goin?)
I tell em, "You know what's gonna happen with Hip-Hop?
Whatever's happening with us"
If we smoked out, Hip-Hop is gonna be smoked out
If we doin alright, Hip-Hop is gonna be doin alright
People talk about Hip-Hop like it's some giant livin in the hillside
comin down to visit the townspeople
We +are+ Hip-Hop"
- Mos Def

I'll definitely check all those out, I'd recommend http://www.allmusic.com to scope out the better albums before hitting the record shop. For kicks I checked up on The Pharcyde (loooong time favorites) looks like the band had some drama, the 2 remaining dudes put out a mediocre album I didn't know about and now they have a greatest hits. First 2 albums are dope, 3rd is almost as good, the last 2 I don't know if I'd buy.. remixes might be cool though.

KRS-ONE - He contains the knowlege of the universe in his rhymes.
Jeru also rises, - he's got a great voice, good stuff.

French hip hop
- DJ Cam is a French DJ who spins New York hip hop, his stuff is definitely downtempo, he knows how to work the decks.
- MC Solaar is featured on Guru's (Gangstarr) Jazzmatazz, he's a French rapper, his delivery is crazy smooth, I've never looked for his CDs though (I always choke when I get into the shop, I need lists). Shout out to DJ Premier, Gangstarr's DJ.
Unfortunately, I took Spanish, not French.

Nas - I forgot, Illmatic is a classic, I love that album.

ATCQ - Comfort music for me, I can never listen too much of them, or Bob Marley, seriously. If I only had one CD to listen to for the rest of my life it'd be Bob's Songs Of Freedom (OK that's 4 CDs but don't tell). The Love Movement though, I can't listen to it, the snare is waaaaay tooooo hot. That was the album they never made :?: Other than that, ATCQ has no equal.

EARLY (pre 2000/2001?) Black Eyed Peas and Roots albums are also huge with me, organic hip hop, real instruments 8) Ever since they're sad sellouts.

I've realised there's a lot of the late 80s/early 90s roots stuff I missed, I was in high school and WAAAY into new wave but Straight Outta Compton and Beastie Boys were huge with me back then, but I missed bands like EPMD, Boogie Down Prod, Eric B, Masta T... where to begin?

I'm not sure how you can lump black eye peas in with the roots.

the best roots album is their least "organic" one --->illadelph halflife

and BEP didn't have a 1/4 of the talent of those guys even before they sold the fuck out.

just my opinion, of course

You're right.

I got into them around the same time, they had similar vibes, then sold out at the same time. The Roots were/are the better band, it pains me to see either of them both riding corporate cock. I caught the Phrenology tour, 4,393 people were on stage, couldn't tell what was going on.

Hey YooHoo, got any music suggestions?

So much good stuff mentioned .. (Songs of Freedom - Mr Brown...Yes Yes)
Illmatic - NY State of Mind (One of my favorite all time tunes that LP never gets old)
"It drops deep as it does in my breath,
I never sleep...cause sleep is the cousin of death,
beyond the walls of intelligence life is defined,
I think of crime when I'm in a NY state of mind"
The smooth criminal on beat breaks...never put me in your box if yo shit eats tapes
Fuckin Lyrics are Ill
A few more cause I'm listening right now
Ice Cube - Lethal Injection (Feeling the HeavyBass on Cave Bitch and cracks me up with his lyrics)
Infamous Mobb Deep Redman Muddy Waters Prodigy HNIC MassiveAttack Gravediggaz 1-800Suicide Alkaholiks - 21&Over Coast2Coast

Whos killing it right now in the states ?

Well, i doubt i've heard anything that you cats haven't. And i'm pretty out of touch these days.

The only guys i can think of that haven't been mentioned here are MFDOOM, Madlib/quasimoto, company flow....

KineticUK is right on with the mobb, redman, gravediggaz, alkoholiks... Back in the mid 90s, it seemed like comercial hip hop was going in a really cool direction. What the fuck happened?? and somebody else mentioned gza liquid swords, which in my opinion is the high water mark of the rza's production skills.

leisuremuffin, who posts here, is also pretty fuckin tight. What? Yeah, fuck it, i'm tired of the fake log in.
