OS X 10.4.5 on Vanilla Intel Boxes

Post by blastique » Tue Mar 28, 2006 7:23 am

Hi guys,

I'm not sure on the sensitivity of this topic, but who has toyed with maxxuss's OS X 10.4.5 on their PC/Laptops and can you post results on the experience?

Apparently an "easy to install" version is in the works according to maxxuss's blog, which all sounds pretty exciting!

There are patches to address amd issues apparently :)

Am I allowed to post links to stuff like this here? I mean, I realize there are no mods, but in respect to the ethics of it all...

Well to be honest I think that this whole OSX on vanilla boxes thing will never be more then a gimick. It'll break on every update, and drivers will be a PITA. Getting it to work with high performance sound card drivers is god damn unlikely. I could be wrong though, it's happened in the past! ;)

i have run the osx live beta on a winblows box running that patched os.

the performance was NOT as good as the new intel machines.
it was a pentium 4 2.8 ghz with 1GB of ram... it got 30-40% on the
performance test...

pretty crappy.

..
is that to do with SSE2? Mine is an athlon 2200 - about 3 years old now and I dont think it has sse2 which I think I read somewhere it needs

I'm not bothered if the performance is slightly less, I just want to stick it on one of my partitions so I can have both on the one machine but I'll probably still use Live under windows because NI stuff seems to have more problems on Mac and I use NI Komplete a fair bit
