Kore alternatives?

Post by rbro » Sun May 07, 2006 10:57 pm

Like many others, I've been intrigued by the promises of Kore and disappointed to learn some of its drawbacks, i.e. the need for the hardware controller to be connected to use the software, the cataloging of only NI presets initially etc., yet it still may be a worthwhile tool. Is there anything else that is similar in terms of providing a type of "universal interface" and being able to catalog, organize and quickly find patches and samples? I think there are alot of folks who would like the software minus the controller if it was at a decent price point.........

I'm sure you could maxMSP it, with a bit of brain-grease.

it´s an attempt by NI to make their Komplete package an industry standard . . .

which I don´t see a problem with, business is business and somekind of a standard will be welcomed in many camps . . .

ofcourse if they want to make it a standard they can´t have it crap , so if you´d actually understand the concept and have some practical experience with digital music making I´d be surprised you wouldn´t see it´s potential . . .

I use a mixture of PD (which is a modular environment like MAX), an 88-key MIDI piano, and a Dashboard Widget frontend, to do something along the lines of what KORE does.

If they add folder tracks, fixed midi mapping with single controller to multiple outputs, ideally with diferent control curves and limits, and inclusion of Vsti's in program chains in Live 6, then we'll be sorted.

Most of these can be worked around but folder tracks to allow parallel routings saved as Live Clips, that would be a big step in the right direction.

Live Clips are so good already that you want to use them in the way Kore is intended but they are not cross DAW compatible and they are currently weak on sounds produced by more than one VSTi simultaneously.

in terms of marketing strategy, KORE is a "Komplete" failure
the launch has been dragged on waaayyyyyy too long and still they failed to really communicate what the product is...
