What's "the" song that changed it all for you?
hmmm . . .i'm a bit tipsy off Steinlager, so i might regret this in the morn but . . .
The most influential songs, or song, I can remember had to do with Duran Duran.
"Rio" was the fucking bomb track!
"Whoo . . .hey now! look at that! . . .you make me feel alive, ALIVE . . .ALIVE!!!!"
after that it would be something Skinny Puppy. LOL

Damn man, now you're getting all Whitney Houston on us.nebulae wrote:I guess that's what friends are for...

Karamu, fiesta, forever"
WTF is karuma??? I always thought he was singing "c'mon now" not karamu.
My skeletons would be like The Monkees, Huey Lewis & The News (local band!), A-Ha... There's gotta be a worse one.
edit: Karamu is a feast celebrating Kwanzaa. http://members.tripod.com/tierla/kwanzaa.html
Damn, I learned something today.
I actually still listen to Aha.DeadlyKungFu wrote:Damn man, now you're getting all Whitney Houston on us.nebulae wrote:I guess that's what friends are for...

The whole Funkadelic "maggot brain" album. It really went out there and stayed funky at the same time. Can You Get To That was the song that really got me on that one.
I had an old experiments in electronic music featuring John Cage and Harry Partch. That showed me that there was way more to musice than just lyrics and pop framework. The Desert was the song on that one that got me.

Lionel Richie's "All Night Long." The first song I remember loving. Yeah yeah, I went head long into Flock of Seagulls, Smiths, New Order, Cure, Kraftwerk, Dep Mod, etc. etc. etc. But if there was one song that started it all, it was that bastard Lionel Richie and that infectious gay groove of All Night Long (all night) that made me realize what a fucking disco fag I really was.
Ok, I'm glad I got that off my chest. Now y'all can make me feel stupid about it...
if you think loving "all night long" is shameful, please consider that there are people out there who STILL love the shit out of that song and furthermore would be so bold to proclaim "can't slow down" as one of the FINEST pop albums of the 80's.
that's right, i said it.
lionel was in the ZONE when he put together that masterpiece of an album. pop/r&b craftmanship that is undeniable.
don't believe me? i'll send you my PERSONAL copy of "can't slow down" on vinyl. don't worry, i'll find another. if you don't think it's an excellent well crafted and beautifully excecuted album you are either lying or just plain HOPELESS.
plus, the picture on the inside of the unfolded album is fantastic.
cheers,
drew

As far as the song,
I really understood texture when I heard "Here come the warm jets" by Brian Eno.
As far as albums,
My first favorite album was Depeche Mode's "Black Celebration" that lost out to Skinny Puppy's "Vivi Sect Vi"
Now I would have to say that Negativ Land's "Helter Stupid" or Terminal Cheesecake's "King of all Space Heads" is my bag right now.
