It was a strange one for sure, especially from someone so experienced. It'll be interesting to hear what his excuse is .. you've got to figure that he would have heard just about every insult in the book at this stage in his career.

Maybe the heat did it to him..
Awright Bawjaws, that smells lovely son, gies a wee taste!

The news here in the UK is saying that the Italian player made an insult about Zizu's Mum (something like "I f*@ked your Mum last night/your Mum is a whore")- who that morning had been taken very ill to hospital. I think any other insult would not have provoked the same response.

To me this whole thing cast a huge shadow on the Italian's victory...

Add a few corruption scandals and u've got a nice picture of Italian fooball: unfair, arrogant and dirty.

There was an English player called Chris Kamara. An opponenet was giving him racist abuse all thru the match, but Kamara just kept playing.

At the final whistle, Kamara charges over to the offending player, twats him hard in the face and breaks his jaw.

Not condoning violence but if you are gonna react, that is pure class.

it's not zidanes first head butt or violence on the field

as far as the corruption scandal goes it only involves a few teams and everybody has known for years that juventus is a corrupt team. same style of curruption you had in germany the past year.

wow, that's single minded man..
I reckon it is an extra thumbs up for a team with such a black cloud above their head the whole tournament; to arise above that and win.

mind you, I am dutch, but think that Italy was the only right one to win.

Undoubtly Italian football business needs a low level format. We're waiting for the court decision on the whole scandal (first grade) which will happen tomorrow. We'll have a def court sentence for the end of july.
It's also true that Italy worked hard on this wwc and won it rightly. They played well and have even been nice to watch in some matches. Another story is the delirium of the italians in these days, and another story is the rage of berlusconi for not being the man of the show this time - infact, he has completeley disappeared from his beloved screens.
But as some here say, regarding what materazzi told zidane to provoke such a reply, the labial movement clearly shows materazzy telling zidane "please headbutt me on the chest right now" :)
