this statement is very surprising.
what do you mean by music isnt "graphical"? For me, sounds cannot be dissociated from shapes and colours.
and for that matter, i think the lemur's shapes and colours are way more appropriate than bland knobs and faders.

That's all good, but how exactly was it done?
Where is the relation between the waveform (music) and the moving powder/ iron filings or whatever (shapes)?
amorat wrote:minus: yes there are weak things about the lemur: it's very graphical oriented... and music isn't very graphical . there is no physical 'feedback' whatsoever.
What I understand amorat meant when he said this is that many MIDI controllers were created for musicians to have direct physical, somatic feedback (aka. 'feel').
E.g. the average MIDI keyboard has old fashioned ( ;) ) keys which can be struck in certain ways to obtain certain changes in the sounds it is controlling, the keys have a particular feel to them and after having played one keyboard for a while, you can feel the difference between it and another model with respect to key size, pressure among the many other aspects of a keyboard's workings.

I can't see the Lemur giving the same kind of 'feedback' as a keyboard, faders, (some) encoders etc.

exactly cashman, and to add to that it means you have to look at the lemur...in a way, well perhaps more so then more tactile controllers like physical faders, where you could confidently look at something else whilst adjusting it...

maybe

just checked out jazzmutants page for 1.5 information. Looks pretty sweet, could a lemur now feasably be used to replace a mackie universal control ...

then again, does anyone know how far away 2nd generation lemurs are ?

Wow, that's great.

But the argument for the lack of feedback from the Lemur still remains.

I think if I had a Lemur, I'd end up using it for pages of audio, video, and lighting clip and scene launch buttons, although the new faders and knobs look good. Software upgradeability... gotta love it!

ImageImage

Kind of a waste, I guess, and the buttons would be tiny on a the small screen (although you can use the entire 800 x 600 pixels).

The ability to use it for graphics/3d/VJ work looks pretty cool, though.

Yea but an't the beauty of the Lemur its dynamically up-dateable like a remote SL in it values settings and that you can access more than one mode at the touch of a button and have a visual reference to what's going on.

Not tempted with a new Monome 100h for launching clips me old china?

Nah... the Monome doesn't seem to do much more that an LX2.

hehe, what you don't know...

The monome is amazingly powerful in the right hands.

For clip launching? How powerful does it need to be?

well if you don't need visual feedback from the device, then any old beat up keyboard will do. I just got the impression that you were looking for more than that?

Nope. Just lotsa labelled buttons.

Although I must admit that I'm using the LX2 LEDs a lot more than I thought I would.

What about day gigs outdoors? Are you completely hosed?
