GENERAL TOPIC: The cost of living!

Post by funknotik » Sat Jul 22, 2006 6:52 am

Trying to move out with my comrad and noticed the prices of apartments are extremely high in miami. (About 1200 for a 2 bed two bath.) He already lives in a flat by himself(yes a flat). Thats a living room and a bathroom, for which he pays around 850 a month including utilities. That along with car insurance payments, internet, food, and random crap equals out too about 1400 monthly. He makes 12 an hr which leaves him with about 300-400 monthly expendable income. I cant belive this is the usual cost of living for the average american citizen. I need to move somewhere that will fit my slacking/music making lifestyle.

Berlin - 50qm = 525€/mo. :D

We also have a small studio (~16qm) which we rent for 60€/mo.

Berlin is disgustingly cheap, by all accounts.

Copenhagen has seen price increases in the order 2x-5x (more in some areas) over the past 5-10 years. It's getting to the point where you need to be two people with above average incomes to get something decent.
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

I have friends from Basel (in Switzerland) whose rent for a pleasant apartment by the Rhine is pretty cheap, much cheaper than an equivalent one in Liverpool.
From my limited Swiss experience there is a lot of variation.

Last time we had a gang over from Basel they kept saying, I can't believe how expensive everything is in England!

When Swiss peaople come to your country and comment on the high prices you know you are fucked!

no just economics. how many people live most of their lives with debt? how many people do you know without a credit card? I meant that its no accident that the cost of living is slightly more than what everyone gets paid. How do you think banks make their fortunes?
