External input causing white noise loop

I'm trying to record my synth into an audio track in Live and as soon as I select the inputs on my Digi002R and arm-record the track, I get a loud white noise hiss, which happens no matter what input I choose. Just by looking at the input options, all the meters show that there is constant signal passing and I can't think of what's causing this. The loops I drag into the timeline play fine, it's only when arm-recording to record from an outside source.

FWIW, I just got a new Macbook and have the latest Intel-ready version of Live running with my Digi002R and the newest CoreAudio driver. I've used this setup for nearly 3 years and this has never happened before. Any ideas?

Probably a small detail I'm overlooking. Sigh...

are you trying to use the computers built in audio card? have you successfully recorded the synth along with the hiss or do you not get any input at all?

I almost suspect that you're computers still using the built in speakers as mic's, next time you arm a track try talking into one of your speakers and see if it reads your voice. I know it sounds crazy, maybe I'm totally on the wrong track.
