intelmac/live 6 beta........big difference in cpu
On the new beta, a song I've been working on that jumps from about 45 to 60 percent is in the neigborhood of 25 to 30 percent lower......just in case someone wanted to know
I'm guessing that there is no cpu1/cpu2 and the they are combined for power.....?

You know what? I can wait for Live 6. It seems that getting an Intel Mac is the only way to get out of Live G4 hell, as I'm pretty sure Live 6 has no G4 optimizations either (remember the Altivec support discussion?). All you Powerbook users out there, I feel for you. (See my sig.)
For once it is good to wait. Leopard and the new Mac Pro will probably be introduced in the WWDC next month, and who knows, maybe the 17" iMac gets bumped up to 2.0 GHz. By the time the smoke clears, Live 6 final should be out too. That is the time to make the transition, big time.

MacBook (Late 2006), iMac 21.5" (Late 2009), Mac OS X 10.6.4 // Ableton Suite 8.2 // KORG microKONTROL & padKONTROL // Saffire PRO 24 DSP // ESI nEAR 05 monitors // Audio-Technica ATH-M40fs cans.
It sucks, but in the computer world.........two COMPLETE generations ago is not going to cut it. G4's were great, but the g5 was better and the coreduo stuff is even better performance wise.
BTW, don't be a fool.......do your research and save your pennies for the right system.......be patient......I wasn't, and I got burned............

I'm REALLY looking forward to the upcoming Mac Pro Workstations. Looks like: Dual-Core 2GHz Intel Xeon $1799, Dual-Core 2.33GHz Intel Xeon $2499, Two Dual-Core 2.66 Intel Xeon $3299.
I'll probably wait for Rev 2, though. I hate being a hardware beta tester!
From MacRumors: "Educated speculation would therefore indicate that Apple's second revision Mac Pro workstation will feature 8 cores, and other models will all become "Quad" machines."

Well it's arguably only one generation ago for the laptops but I know what you are saying.eyeknow wrote:It sucks, but in the computer world.........two COMPLETE generations ago is not going to cut it. G4's were great, but the g5 was better and the coreduo stuff is even better performance wise.

My G4 is being sold to my folks in the autumn to make way for a macbook (or mbp) - just in time for the Live 6 release to have settled down to 6.0.3
