I love all their albums.... especially the ambient stuff ...Sonic explorations...

they still put out amazing albums...murray st. is SUCH a good album...

Yeah they were a big influence on my guitar playing, though honestly they give poor interviews, look at the Year Punk Broke for examples...

Another great guitar band would be the first two Gang of Four records, really great stuff IMO.

Funkadelic - maggot brain / funkadelic are good...love the rough rough sound...

And Parliament albums well...

In fact I'm off to listen to that right now! You gotta love the way it all just flows together. There's a good version of May You Never on the Old Grey Whistle Test DVD (first one I think), I know John Martyn still gigs here but I haven't been... I should do that.
