The Best Album Ever.
Re: The Best Album Ever.
wow man - thanks for sharing that! I love these sorts of threads they always take me on a big tangent -Spikee wrote: That album? Sea Change, by Beck. And I'm not even a Beck fan really... but that album is the quintessential work of art to me, it is perfect in every way. You can really feel the emotion in the songs, and you can appreciate the craftsmanship that went into the composition and the production.
s
I just went to iTunes to check it out GODDAMN FECKIN JESUS BASTARD ITUNES PREVIEW SUCKS THE BASTARD PUSS COVERED BOLLOX
anyway combined with your good words about it and the amazingly flattering review I clicked on "add album" - I'm up for some new kind of inspiration like that - I can really relate to the getting back into songs/songwriting thing
And Beck is one of those people I feel I have neglected, because I LOVED his first album when it came out - and since have always been interested but never actually got around to checking any of his stuff out - and he seems to have done loads
any of his other albums really worth a listen?
nah you'd want them - you would not play them for a while, then you'd remember you had them and be glad you remembered - the fact that you hate the repetition means you wouldnt do it too oftenleonard wrote:sorry man, i'm lost on what your saying.Johnisfaster wrote: I had this thought earlier today. If I couldn't make music I wouldn't want to listen to it anymore. it would just make me dream of having my laptop and electricity again.
the point i was trying to make is if I was stranded for the rest of my life, i couldn't handle having only five albums, or any fixed number for that matter. i'd need everything, or nothing. life is variety, and chaos. I know I'd end up rather droning to the lapping waves and the birds that putting on something I've heard everyday for the past <since when>. electricity doesn't factor for me, nor does a laptop. the most exstatic moments I have are without anything, caught in the "zone", when a noise catches your attention, and the harmony, and pulsating rhythm take you to that majickal place, the place you've only been in your dreams. no recording can take you there. because that's life, that's music.
I think John was right about the reasons why - but then you'd just hollow out a log or something and find ways to make music
oh and as for the 5 albums......
Leftism by Leftfield is definitely one.
I guess I'd have to include Mezzanine by Massive attack and Dummy by portishead
Abbey Road by the beatles
Faith by the Cure
Dig your own hole by Chemical Brothers
Prodigy Jilted generation and fat of the land
Pink Floyd Dark side of the moon
ah shit man I've already fooked it - you need 5 for every mood, and I'm a gemini so I have about a million moods "slight hint of vague melancholic lilac with an undelying content anticipation because it's 2pm on a saturday" - that one would require 5 of it's own

Certainly I could give myself a headache thinking too much on this, so I'm gonna do it fast and stick with it...
Kid A - Radiohead
Pop - U2
I See a Darkness - Bonnie "Prince" Billy
Blowout Comb - Digable Planets
The Sound Hobbyist - Zita Swoon
It seems The Beach Boys should be in there somewhere, but there isn't a single particular album. And it hurts me to leave off the first Violent Femmes, because it's simply brilliant (oh, I'm a sneaky one)

I seem to have this very conversation every week. Never an easy answer...
In their order of the ability to destroy my soul and rebuild me.
1. Endtroducing - DJ Shadow. (I love how this is the most repeated on this thread.) The epitome of everything I wish I could do with my music. Inovate, inspire, and change perspectives.
2. Aenema - Tool. Maynard says what I really wish I had the balls to, and Jones' guitar work echoes Maynard.
3. OK Computer - Radiohead. An abosolute masterwork from beginning to end. I am listening to Radiodread right now and it reitterates Radioheads' genious. (Radiodread my the Easy Star All-Stars is a song-by-song rework in dub and reggae of OK Computer. Really Amazing. It is like hearing the CD for the first time way back when.)
4. Grace - Jeff Buckley. This CD feels too good to be forgotten
5. This space changes minute by minute. I have a constantly changing 5th favorite... right now it's The Stills - Logic will Break Your Heart. In an Hour it will be something else.

15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.
