Pros & Cons of audio interfaces...

Post by cbass » Fri Sep 01, 2006 4:39 pm

I am happy with my mixer>powerbook's soundcard setup i have, but for some reason feel like a need to get an audio interface whether it be pcmia, usb, firewire...
I get great sound, hands on flexibility, and its cheap and less to worry about...

is there something im missing...
a powerbook, some guitars, some keys, some fxs, some creativity

More inputs and outputs?
Midi?
With an RME pcmcia you'll have better sound.
Headaches?

i dont need more inputs, all my equipment fits in my mixer, i use a send channel to send the audio to my computer...

i have a remote sl for midi

how will the sound be better... im going to rip up the auido and mangle it anyway...
and its at cd quailty, the final is going to end up an aac or mp3 anyway...

no headaches...

if you had better latency you'd probably notice the difference.
i use my internal card on my mac all the time, it doesn't sound as good as my external, but through alot of systems you can't tell anyway.
it's nice to not have to carry the extra stuff, although the 1/8th inch jack
can be fragile.

I had PCMCIA Digigram VX440 for some time. Nice card, low latency, only dangling 8 XLR plugs tend to rip off the plug to the card when you forget to fasten the cable to lappy.

depends on what you are using your computer for. are you DJing with Live? are you creating entire songs with in Live? is Live just one instrument in an arsenal of instraments hardware and software? Are just using your computer to record stuff from your hardware mixer? Something else entirely? The answer to this will help us help you.
