What do you think about BT?

Post by tomperson » Wed Oct 11, 2006 5:46 pm

I don't really know anything about him or his music, aside from having read that he pioneered trance or something (one of those statements that sound a bit exaggerated...). Today I came across a review of "This Binary Universe" that made me become interested in listening to his music.
'This Binary Universe' covers a wide range of articulated influences: The romantic classicism of Frederic Chopin and mathematics-inspired Claude Debussy; to 20th century modernists Krzsztof Penderecki and Igor Stravinsky. And yet, there's a clear nod to the spatial minimalists Sigur Rós and glitch-era circuit-benders Telefon Tel Aviv. Through all this, BT has done the inexplicable: Combined the core inspiration of these wildly diverse and contrarian musical approaches to form a cohesive sound.
What do you think?
Turn up the radio. Turn up the tape machine. Look into the sunset up ahead. Roll the windows down for a better taste of the cool desert wind. Ah yes. This is what it's all about. Total control now.

Well BT got me intrested in producing seriously in 2000. I bought his Movement in Still Life album and although now listening some of the tracks are typically obvious trance, his attention to detail is second to none. He is a prodige and an amazing musicial/composer and engineer. Regardless of whether you dig his tracks or not.
Whatever he turns to he does seem to do really well at. Hes written probably some of the best breakbeats ever in Hip Hop Phenomenon. 8)

he's cool - very highly respected in the world of music and his accomplishments can't be hated on

However, I don't listen to his music or go see him when he comes to town

I like trance by artist like Max Graham (does he even play trance?), Christopher Lawrence and PVD - the rest? ah I don't even know right

This is one of the main reasons why i asked, i've seen several times people ranting about BT, but can't figure why. Maybe I'm missing something for not having heard his music...don't know...On other post the other day I read something like he was an ass, and all the hard work was made for other people, not him, yadda, yadda. Could you explain why?

I booked Max for a show here in Victoria a few years back and he pretty much played everything from funky house to prog to trance to house. It was a great show. In regards to BT's new album, it sounds more like classical music than anything. Definatly worth a listen, amazing production....just not my thing. (he played here just a few weeks ago)

i'm a big fan of his stuff, especially things like this binary universe and the monster score. that and it's fun to hear him talk about all the crazy crap he does in his tracks.
we are all bound to do what we want most.
