I'm going to give a serious answer here and say G is a good starting point as I find a low G bass is a nice deep solid frequency, with headroom to do changes either side while still keeping it nice and subby. I used to write everything in c but I find C1 is too low, and C2 is too high :)

F is good too

its funny

Another vote for G!

A few tracks have been going that way for me lately too. :D Must be the resonant freq of this part of the planet.

I sometimes think I'm in the SPL-Delivery business. Y'know, where's it gonna hit 'em?

I like to record several takes of squeezing my hand in my armpit, then use a guitar tuner to find the pitch of the loudest. From there, I take the relative minor of that pitch's key and use its locrian scale as the harmonic root of the melody, kind of like an indian raga, but using the chakra located in the armpit to add a spiritual dimension to the music. Good luck.

OK, I tried both F and G. I must admit, G sounds much better than F, so thanks for the advice.

So I just played F the whole time. And for my drum notes too. But that only means that I have one drum sound. It is a tom sound. So I'm thinking, maybe I should switch to G to get another drum sound? I don't want to break the harmony but i can't imagine how anybody makes trance with just F. So help me please, I think i'm almost there.

Try still playing F, but more or less often. Drums aren't really necessary in electronic music.

You can alternate between F and E#, and try harmonizing with perfect 8ths and 15ths whenever possible. Make sure to include a snare roll too...

start with a snare in F then slowly divide it into lower case f's untill you finally reach G.

To enjoy trance you'll definitely need an e.

This is getting kind of confusing. How to make a lower case F? Does anyone have any examples? my keyboard has mostly Fs it seems like.

Should I maybe use harmony instead? for instance, ffff gggg.

What about drum notes? is F also the best drum note or should I use harmony?

OK, i figures some things out.

First of all: yes more G notes for the harmony and more F notes for drum notes.

Another thing that I learned (and I think we all can here) playing more than one note will make the trance song more interesting. they even make some effects that make notes from other notes. ableton has this paraggiater that makes more audio notes by just holding one!

i'm proud to be one of the few that are really pushing the limits on what this software can do!

You're using F AND G?!? Dude, you're going to quickly alienate your audience with your harmonic wizardy! If you want to make it in this game, just stick to F man!!
