mtech laptop opinions/recommendations + sound card

Post by spherop » Mon Dec 04, 2006 7:24 pm

Am planning purchase of laptop to serve as both a recording and live performance rig. Live 6 will be at the heart of the performing aspect.

I have read that mtech makes great machines. I have an investment in quite a bit of PC music software/plugs etc. So I have been more leaning towards pc side - also getting more bang for buck seemingly.

Anyone bought an mtech for music purposes recently?

How is the build quality and also how is the loudness of the machine?

Here's the unit I am considering, configured with 2gig ram and 2x 7200 drives.
~$1950

As far as sound cards, so far have been looking at rme multiface, fireface, and maybe presonus firestudio? I need ~ 8 ins for live mixing. I also want the card to aes/spdf because I have lavry ad converters I will use for recording purposes.

Love to hear from the community here any opinions on the above.
