firewire 800 - how important

Post by spherop » Tue Dec 05, 2006 6:06 pm

i am pricing out laptops and will likely be getting an rme fireface 400 as well.

i am wondering what key advantages having firewire 800 as opposed to firewire 400?

no real advantages.
firewire 400 is more than enough for most devices.

you'll want a 400 for your laptop, most external sound cards come with an AC adapter ... the 800 uses the power supply from your computer to power it.

???

800 is compatible with 400 and both can power an external device, or be used with an AC adapter.
800 is useful if you plan on using RAID firewire hard disk, otherwise...
