youtube: sloppy, but really fun!
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

I googled around a bit and found his myspace page - you could ask him yourself - http://www.myspace.com/andreduracell .
Also found this link which has an interview
http://andrediamant.free.fr/duracell.htm
which says:
"Ok, I use a clavia nord micromodular and triggers on my drums...."

ok, it's the result of much programming:
Who could have thought that such a dense musical explosion could ever emanate from one man alone? Using a nord modular to constitute additional members and musical parts, and supplying an endless, controlled battery of lightning-fast drum smashes; Andrew Dymond is able to create a wholly new embodiment of musical exposition, manifold in its creative genius.
One hit of a drum does not signify the whole in this process of music making. Midi-triggers are attached to a pre-programmed synth –painstakingly sequenced with complex, alternating patches- to create a perfectly synchronised accompaniment to the drumming onslaught. The drum strikes become twinned with melody, but the sound does not stop spreading. The floor tom, then the bass and snare drum, are all attached - all musical cogs in action- creating the whole. Each drum giving their own sonically synonymous melody; the bass drum triggering staggeringly powerful basslines, the snare driving with hectic disarray through different melodies, and the floor tom pushing through different patterns.

a drummer learned how to fake playing an instrument. wow. give me a pack of gum, I'll teach him how to chew it.
the practice modules that come with midi drum kits have that feature, hitting a trigger cycles through a series of notes, fun practice. he could be running the midi from that feature into a nord. cool that he can change up the song so much.
Looks like the party's a total sausage fest, I can't tell if those guys are shrooming or just really dorky.

exactly, it was exciting I thought. somehow I keep coming accross videos on youtube that challenge my ideas on how music is made. kamoni, kj sawka, headphobe, and now this guy duracell. awesome stuff.tribewalker wrote:i dont care how he did it...

he used to use a nord micromodular.
now he's got a g2. he posts over at electro-music.com sometimes. he's a nice guy.
i make some automatic music sometimes with the nord g2. it's a good concept-i'm currently trying to integrate live into that kind of an idea-so far it's been using it as kind of a big sampler, without even hitting play.
this was done live just in the g2, nothing was edited.

kick drum triggers the chord changes, "solo" done by quantizing lfos chained to other lfos and then chopped up with a sample and hold. nothing is being played except for 16 cc faders on a peavey 1600x. fun!

Didn't we just talk about Duracell last week?!?
I friggin love duracell!
I have a max pluggo that does this. Basically, it records whatever it receives above c3 into an internal sequencer, and triggering notes below c3 steps through the midi in different ways. I've been using max for about 6 months, and the pluggo took about an hour to do, if I recall correctly.
One cool thing to do is have the drummer play melodies that have just been fed into the unit from the keyboard player - you can get some nifty chasing going that way.
