he cleared up for that photo but off camera is quite a different story!
Like me. This minimalistic setup let me do jobs quickly and it fits in a few bags to do work in a more inspiring environment or record co-musicians in their homes. So I do not feel like a bum but pretty smart .carbonform wrote:do you guys with the HUGE setups get paid to make music or is it more of an expensive hobby? makes me feel like a bum im only rockin a computer with a midi controller...
I used to rewire reason but recently I even sold that, so it's definately live with a few au-instruments, one midi controller @home, one small keyboard for the road, a few mics and guitars. with less gear and less software I feel like I can concentrate on music rather then learning GUIs and reading manuals. I do not feel that modern hardware synths sound better then software (digital synths do nothing else than software anyway) so I don't struggle with lots of midi and audio cables but rather work in one clean and intuitive interface. lately my projects involve more musicians and more improvisation so I will definately invest in a new interface with more and better quality inputs to catch these moments.
Anyway, people who own a lot of hardware seem to be either sound engineers or keyboard player. hardware allows a more intuitive access for designing sounds. professionals or hobbyists, who cares?
If you get the job done with less gear, your revenue is higher. so the chance you can make a living from it is better. that's professional in my interpretation
...just trying to figure out how to make my computer sing....
