whats wrong with havin an insanely fine bitchin A6 in the studio?
I don't really "produce tracks" anymore, for me it's all about jamming and improvising. I'm trying to remake myself into a live improv electronic musician, so my "gig rig" has to be the exact same as my "studio"... I can't become dependant on a system, process or device that I can't use all the time, or I'll choke.

After selling my X-Station 49, I am left with only one hardware synth... my EMU XL-7 command station. (Basically an EMU Proteus 2000 synth w/ fancy controllers and a sequencer)

But it's been sitting in my closet for a while now. VSTs baby.

Microkorg here.
Otherwise Reason and Arturia's Analog Factory software next to Live. There are many great sounds and it's easy to use. I'm more like the preset guy who tweaks a little than the sounddesigner that builds everything from a scratch.

I started with some very early Yamaha PSR keyboard with about 25 key's and 7 sounds. Given away to family. Then came the Kawai FS680 keyboard, very nice but i needed something better so i got a Roland D-20 instead. The Korg X5D came. And then the expanders came, Roland JV-2080, Korg TR-Rack, Waldorf Pulse. Korg ER-1 drumcomputer. Searching for a new sound i got the Clavia Nord Lead 3, and a Roland Juno 106. And then i felt in love with the Elektron machines. MD, later upgraded to MD-UW, SidStation, MonoMachine, you name it. Ableton Operator and Sampler.
Live 6.0.3 Win XP sp2, P4 2.8 GHz, 1 GB, UXGA video, RME Multiface (1), Nord Lead 3, Korg X5D, TR-Rack, ER-1, Roland Juno 106, JV-2080, Elektron Machinedrum-UW, SidStation, SPL Charisma, Soundtracs CP6800 (40/12/24), Genelec 1030A, Furutech TP80, etc.

My Hardware (I've included a couple of samplers, filters and a theremin since they too can either generate, filter or "synthesize" sounds):

• Akai MPC2000
• Alesis DM5
• Clavia Nord Lead
• DSI Evolver
• Electrix FilterFactory
• Electrix WarpFactory Vocoder
• Elektron Sid Station
• Ensoniq ASR10r
• Ensoniq ESQ1
• Ensoniq Mirage
• Ensoniq TS10
• Ensoniq VFX-SD
• Etherwave Theremin
• Korg Electribe EA-1
• Korg Electribe ER-1
• Korg Electribe ES-1
• Roland JP8000
• Roland JV2080
• Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 (my first synth bought new when it came out!)
• Waldorf Micro Q
• Waldorf MiniWORKS 4-Pole Filter
• Waldorf Microwave XTk

Love both hardware and software, but I just love the feel of hardware as well as the characteristics of certain hardware. Looking to get a couple of other hardware pieces soon...

korg karma, roland JD 990, yamaha RM50.

i prefer to use soft synths these days. will probably trade or sell my karma sometime in the future. love the sound from the JD990 so i'll keep it even though its not seeing much use. the yamaha is great for drums but gets a bit redundant since i have battery 3, dr008, and DFHS. it was originally dave's from rabbit in the moon and is autographed so i'm sure to keep it even though it hardly ever gets used.

Roland Alpha Juno 1
E-Mu E6400
E-Mu Emax
MPC2000
Yamaha CS-15 (needs to be fixed, portamento is f*ckered)
TR-808
TB-303
Electribe EA-1 (mostly for the sequencer)
Music People Drumfire drum synth
Coron DS-8 drum synth clone

not all of them get used all the time, but they are kept nearby - mostly stuff i've had for a long time and i couldn't bring myself to get rid of, or never found a suitable software substitution (Alpha Juno). i tend to gravitate back and forth between the convenience of soft synths, etc and the inspiration factor of hands on use/analog CV and trigger stuff all plugged into each other/sound of hardware through a mixer that's so hard to get with a DAW.

but i am lucky to have the luxury of choice...

ah, i remember that RM-50 when he had it...... the JD-800/JD-990 was very heavily used on all the old RITM tracks. such a great synth.... the JD-800's and many other Roland keyboards of that era unfortunately had a tendency to have thier key weights fall off (bad epoxy) and cause a gooey mess.... no fun to fix.

mine:

oberheim matrix 1000

waldorf pulse

sh 101 (and kenton midi to cv)

nord micro modular

available to me on regular basis:

arp odyssey

mini moog

what i want:

nice euro rack system, starting with a modest doepher rig. (this is in my not so distant future, i hope)

i would say buchla 200 system (note, not 200e), but it ain't gonna happen.

i'd also like a memory moog and that also aint gonna happen. they are super nice though.
