B&H store in New York

Post by brightonalex » Thu Dec 21, 2006 5:51 pm

When I asked about good audio shops in new york, nobody mentioned B&H video! I only went there to buy some camera film, it is a techno geeks wet dream!! Completely staffed by orthodox jews, there are speakers as big as a room, and spotlights 2 metres across. There is a massive pro audio section, and a conveyor belt over your head with little hooks carrying equipment about! 100 times more exciting than Mannys or Rogue music!

Rogue music was the same as a second-hand gear store in the UK. A couple of bored stoners looking resentful that I'd invaded their space for 5 minutes.

It's nice to hear that you guys like our little burrito cart over here. :D

Be sure to sign up for our 2007 Pro Audio catalog. I did a lot of the writing, including the intro on the 1st page. I must say, if you've read any good Pro Audio catalog intro paragraphs lately, mine is sure to be a stunner.

Why don't you start selling second hand audio gear upstairs? I could only see cameras. Maybe there's not enough space?

Yeah, funny story about Glu's NovationSL. I sold it to him when I was doing phone sales. The conversation went something like this:

Glu "Do you have the SL25?"
ME "Yup, they're in stock."
Glu "Great I'd like to buy one."
ME "Cool, what's your info blah blah blah"
Glu "Blah blah blah blah blah"
ME "Blah blah blah blah-blah. So, what software are you going to use that with?"
Glu "Well I have Pro Tools but I mostly use Ableton Live."
ME "Cool, me too. How did you get into Live?"
Glu "Well, I would just go to their forum online because I could always get good infromation from the people there, and after a year or so I took another look at the program and I got really into it."
ME "Huh, well, I actually hang out at the forum a lot..."
Glu 8O "Oh yeah, what is your login?"
ME  "Uh, well, I'm Sales Dude McBoob"
Glu "Hehe Hi Sales Dude McBoob, this is Glu"
ME "Ahh-ha, Glu, I know you..."
Glu 8O
ME 8O
Glu "Well, sweet, I should have it in a few days?"
ME "Yeah, it's all set."
Glu "Alright. Thanks Sales Dude McBoob!"
ME "No problem, Glu."

split screen... both set down the phone, sighing contendedly, then turn to gaze contemplatively out the window, chins slightly uplifted as they gaze into the bright electronical musical future softly lit by the cool glow of laptop lcd internetconnectedness... music swells.... and fade to black.
