Korg Zero 4 & 8

I was in a music shop yesterday and they just received the pricing for the korg's new products. Here in Canada the Zero 8 should be around 2250$, 1920 USD$, if I remember correctly. But about everything cust us more here.

Ouch. I like the idea a lot but I'll do my mixing in software for that price.

I agree, pretty costy.

IMO, it's more for somebody who want's to update is gear and wants protability. The price may be summarize as simple maths :

1000 Audio interface
+250 KaossPad
+250 Controller
+500 Mixer
Around 2000$ But I guess it won't be as tweakable as if you have everything separated.

With the problems people seemed to have with the ProjectMix, I'm a bit on the defensive on that one.

I went over and talked to them about your question. The 8 encoders do send different CC msgs (push vs. turn). You also have 4 banks of the 8 encoders. That's pretty sweet.

I heard a price point of $2k though - although this is not confirmed, but just overhead in conversation from someone who had said they talked to Korg about the price.

Either - it is a functional tool for sure. I'm impressed.

The Korg rep from NAMM said US $2000, so I'd imagine street to be about $1800/$1900 or so..

I want to see/feel one of these first hand - I don't think of Korg as makers of "HANDS-ON-BUILD-WELL" products. Time will tell!

not as solid as an allen and heath, it was probably on par with the DJM-800 which is pretty good, actually.

that was my feeling when playing with it.

Keep in mind that the midi and audio parts on the A&H Xone 3D are really different from each other: while the EQ pots and the audio faders are perfect, there's not enough space between the midi pots and the faders are not as good as those on the audio channels.

If the korgs are close to the DJM800, then they are better then the midi part on the A&H.

the good news is most of korgs products usually drop after 6 months.then again in 6 months there will be more gear we will lust after.

there was no wobble to the knobs, but they aren't as beefy (i.e. thicker) as I'd like them for performance reason, IMO.

But definitely serviceable. You can really bang on an A&H and it will hold up, but I'd probably be a little more careful with the Korg unit based on my initial impression.

Then again, this was obviously a preproduction unit and some things could change before it is generally put into production.

I was just quoted a price of 2266 euro here in Denmark for the Zero8 and a release time of April....

I am shooting for some great German price competition on this one...

Must be there to chain firewire devices (i.e. hard disk).
If you want to use 2 laptops just get 2 Zero4 ?
