Post by j.enslow » Thu Mar 22, 2007 1:13 am

Ever tried or do you own one?

I'm shopping soon and want to know!

Thanks for your opinions!

Don't have the Kensington but I have a microsoft trackball and love it... It takes a day or two to get use to but you'll never go back to a mouse... I find it is more accurate and faster for doing certain functions like zooming in on a clip or warping tracks...

I've been thinking about getting a touchscreen overlay for my laptop, but I think a trackball might be a little more versatile. Having both might be a great combination... But for now...

Judging by the testimonials, I'm gonna run out tomorrow and buy a Kensington Expert!

Sadly, the local computer shop will have to special order so the waiting game begins.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

Yeah, i use them in the edit suites at work and in my home studio, don't think i'll ever go back to using the mouse. They make take a small amount of getting used to, but it's worth it. I'd recommend getting one like the expert mouse which has a very large trackball, not too keen on the smaller ones.

Just went from an (old and very gunked-up!) Kensington Orbit to a Kensington Expert Mouse trackball.

The bigger ball is taking a bit of getting used to. It's very important to tweak the speed and acceleration parameters to find a "natural" and efficient feel. I am LOVING the scroll ring and multiple buttons. I'm still working out what works best, but I currently have mine set to:

I like trackballs too, but I go back and forth, so I'm proficient. The best thing about a trackball, other than the advantages noted by our esteemed Cosmo, is that at many gigs, you have no idea how much space you get...using a trackball requires very little stationary space.

My big-ass mx518 mouse AND mouse movements take up the same space as that big mf'ing Kensington.
